> Can anyone tell me if there any Scottish records on the > British Vital > Records CDs that are not available on Scotlands People. There is some pre-1855 information on the BIVRI CDs relating to baptisms in the Free Kirk which may not be in the SP database (yet). The SP database is compiled from the parish registers kept by the Church of Scotland. In theory all baptisms and marriages, regardles of denomination, should have been recorded in these registers, but this did not always happen. >From 1855 SP has births from the statutory civil registers, and BIVRI has some baptisms, so there is slightly different information about the same individuals. I have never been able to understand why the information in BIVRI wasn't simply added to the IGI at the outset. I have just checked a couple of events which I originally found in the BIVRI CDs, and they are still not listed in the IGI, though there have been many additions to that over the years, including in some cases half a dozen duplicate entries for the same people.
