That James was married to Ann Taylor, and he died 18 April 1862, , age 63 (which does not match the 1851 census age of 40), parents Thomas Morrison and Jane Milne (neither of whom can be found on the 1851 Kirriemuir census). On that 1881 marriage of William Morrison and Agnes McPherson, note that William's parents were shown as Alexander Morrison, hand loom linen weaver and Agnes Wallace, hand loom linen weaver. The fact that Agnes was not shown as Agnes Morrison MS Wallace is an indication that they might not have been married. Alsoi the fact that they showed an occupation for Agnes, which they didn't usually do for a married woman. And on that 1881 census -- Alexander/Agnes -- Agnes is listed under her name as Agnes Wallace and is shown as a boarder, more evidence that they never married. If you decide/agree that the 1886 death is for your Alexander (children often thought their parents were older than they actually were!) let me know, as I do have a little more information on the other children of Thomas Morrison and Jane Milne.
