    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Forfarian Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ans.general/5630.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org lists six children of James Mitchell and Jane Duncan, all born in Dundee: James, 5 February 1862 John, 14 March 1863 William, 22 February 1865 Alexander, 4 May 1867 Charles Fraser, 22 June 1871 Robert Connor, 12 June 1873 This is presumably the James Mitchell and Jane Duncan who were married in Dundee on 28 June 1861. In the 1881 census the family were at 17 Arklay Street, Dundee. James was a winder in a jute factory, aged 45, born in Dundee. Jane was aged 47, born in Kirriemuir. James, aged 19, was an apprentice mechanic; John, aged 18, an apprentice clerk and William, aged 16, a jute mill worker. Charles, 9 and Robert, 7 were at school. There was another son at school, George, aged 11, born in England. No sign of Alexander, who would have been 13. He may have died; an Alexander Mitchell, aged 0, died in Dundee in 1867 and one aged 9 died there in 1876. If you go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and invest in a few credits, you can view the marriage certificate of James and Jane, which will tell you the full names of both sets of parents. You can also look at other census records, and at birth, marriage and death certificates. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
