Author: GordonPertJohnson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ans.general/2122.6/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Robert Cargill SWANKIE: You seldom get middle names appearing in the earlier census returns. It also depends on WHEN the middle name was added. Many people did not have a middle name in their birth/baptismal record, and added it later for various reasons. The same thing happened in reverse, people dropping middle names. Also, the placename Forfar might mean Forfar parish/town or Forfarshire the county, depending on where your data came from. If the Cargill was to acknowledge his mother's maiden surname, then in my database I have a Robert Swankie who married a Jean Cargill, 23 Oct 1819, St. Vigeans parish (which usually means Arbroath or Auchmithie in Angus i.e. Forfarshire) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
