If he is still alive he would be 74 and nothing comes up that indicates his death in Scotland (Scotlandspeople) up to 2006. If he was still resident in UK in 1953 at age 18 he would have been liable for military service so perhaps a record of this can be found. However, he may have left UK and on findmypast.com I find a record of a John Angus age 5 born (calculated from age)about 1934 sailing from Glasgow to New York on the American Importer (United States Lines)departing 26 October 1939. It might be wise to determine if this was your John and whether he then remained in USA or maybe Canada before following up possibilities in UK.
