My Mary Beattie has children Elizabeth (my direct ancestor and born in England also), William (a joiner), Jean, Margaret, Thomas and Isabella in the 1841 census. There is also a possible connection with an Alexander Beattie living in Edinburgh (born in England and would have been Elizabeth's older brother) who has a sister Isabella, born in Montrose and the right age, visiting in 1851. Unfortunately Elizabeth married and died before the introduction of certificates so I can't confirm her paternity but assumed that the Mary (nee Muckart) dying at about the right age in Montrose was my Mary. Also because Elizabeth's first son was called George. Are you certain that the mother of Catherine is David Muckart's sister? I'm trying to find a death certificate for William, who was still living in Montrose in 1881 and working as a joiner. Unfortunately he doesn't have any Georges in the family. Note Ancestry has wrongly transcribed my Mary and her daughter as born in Ireland. The Scotland's People censuses clearly have an E not an I and they transcribe it as England. Is the Will any help on this point? My Mary is definitely in New Wynd up to 1851 but the only Mary Beattie after that is living in 19 Murray Street (ie Mary Muckart, according to her death certificate). Perhaps local street directories may hold the key. best wishes Sandi Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
