Those extra bits of info are very welcome as I find it difficult to get much info off the web on Scots people, compared with England. I will give scotlandspeople a go. I found good info on the Dale School but the Mars training vessel makes sense - the Thomas family in Australia were avid boatbuilders and sailors. One became a pearl-diver and skipper at Broome on the n-w coast of WA.
