    3. Dear List, I was wondering if somebody could help me out a bit. I have just found out the death of John Dawson (see below), and I was hoping that somebody might have a photo or transcript of a possible stone for him or even a burial list at Inverarity? Can anyone living in or around Inverarity help me out at all? In return I can help with certificates/look ups at New Register House. Here is what I know! John Dawson, b.1819, Inverarity; d. 27th June 1855, Forfar (38 years) Second son of Peter Dawson and Jean Mitchell m. Jessie Forrest, b. 1821, Forfar; d. 22nd May 1879, Forfar (60 years) on. They had at least one child: Peter Dawson, b. 1839/1841, Forfar John was a linen weaver. He died at Feuchet Croft, Forfar. His son Peter Dawson was the informant and organiser of the funeral at Inverarity. He is buried in the Churchyard of Inverarity. If anyone can help me out I would be extremely grateful. Thanks: Lorna xx Lorna Kinnaird (Muat) Family History: Fyfe (Forfar); Muat (Haddington) Childminder in Edinburgh, Scotland - what's for you, won't go by you!

    3. Hi Lorna, While records exist for Inverarity burial ground for the period they are very basic and not set out in the way a newly laid out cemetery dating from about 1855 would be. For example there are no lair numbers, the burial place is derived by measurement from two boundary walls. Also, as there are no lair registers, it is not possible to see a list of people buried in the same ground. However, there is a record of John Dawson's burial and he was buried 15 1/3 yards from the South wall and 15 1/3 yards from the West wall ... with the complication that the western boundary was extended at one time and the 1855 measurement is probably from the original wall. I also found an entry for Peter Dawson of 54 Forfar Lone who was buried on May 29th 1844 age 54 (13 yds from S, 18yds from W so close to John.). Jean Dawson of 57 Teuchat Croft was buried May 2nd 1863 age 75 (12 yds from S, 16 2/3 yds from W, more or less alongside Peter). There is also a Mary Dawson of 27 Dundee Rd, Forfar, buried 20th November 1857 age 27 (16 yds from S, 15 yds from W ... seems to be in the same area as the other Dawsons. I visited the grave-yard and paced out the distances to locate only one stone ... and it is not the Dawsons. There is a fair stretch of grass in the likely area completely devoid of monuments!
