    3. Hi all, I was talking with my sister-in-law at the weekend and ended up doing quite a bit of family history things for her. Found fascinating things that took us to Montrose, Brechin, Perth and elsewhere as well as Dundee which is her home-town. Does anybody have a connection to the GOUICK (also Gouk, Gauk, Gouck and so on) name? This family was in Montrose first, linen weavers, then William Gouck moved to Dundee becoming a jute weaver at some point between 1869 and 1871. GARDNER comes into this family in two ways: John Gouick married into a Gardner family - with connections in Perth and even Glasgow - in the early 1900s, but long before that there were Gairdners marrying KEITHS in Montrose, and the Keiths marrying into SPARK then Gouick lines. I've found a few gems, such as David Keith, shipmaster in Montrose, and his wife Marjory Gairdner, who in 1749 named a son 'Charles Edward'. The grand-sounding name of Clementina Spark in the next generation (daughter of David's daughter Marjory Keith) had initially been a puzzle until I found that Jacobite naming connection. Montrose held many staunch Jacobites. So - if you have any connections with these names do get in touch as having just done a couple of days work on this, I've got quite a lot of info to share. I'll be writing a 'formal' report for my sister-in-law, but much that I've found is likely to be useful to other people too. Jenny
