Hi Greg, It depends on what the problem is. Are the scans either too faint, suffering from 'bleed through' or subject to another problem of that nature - either in the scanning or in the original documents? If so, you need to contact SP and Anne has explained how. Or, is it that you don't know how to read the writing, which is probably Secretary Hand? If so, there are several online tutorials accessible from SP but also several of us on here may be able to help if you send us the scans. Best regards, Jenny On 17/02/2013 03:06, [1]ghwighton@bigpond.com wrote: Hi all, Could SKS please advise me of the best, easiest way to have three indecipherabl e 1600s OPRs that I have downloaded from SP translated ! Hi Greg, When you download any certs from SP there's a statement above each cert stating - " For help with viewing images click here . If you would like to send a comment to us about the quality or transcription of this image, click here ." If you click on the second link (send a comment about quality etc) you can e-mail them and ask for a better image or for someone to transcribe the certs, remember to click on the down arrow at the top of the page stating "Issue: Please pick the issue that best fits". You'll then get a drop down menu so, in this case, you would click on OPR IMAGE REPORTING. I've done this numerous times, with both OPR and Statutory records and SP always send me better images via e-mail. My g-g-grandparents - Thomas WILSON and Mary STEVEN (STEPHEN) are buried in St. Vigeans. I found the stone on my visit late last year but it is largely indecipherable. I am hoping someone maybe has the Book 2 of pre 1855 Inscriptions and can do a lookup for me. The stone appears to include a reference to their son James WILSON and his wife Elizabeth MARSHALL. Thanks.
I have many years of research on the McKenzie's of Kirriemuir and the surrounding areas, some related and some unrelated. There are several born in Kirriemuir in the 1863-64 time period. Will you share with me what information you have on Thomas? Exact birth date, siblings, was he married, if so when and wife's name, did he emigrate? hi folks, was there a minimum age for being served as heir? My ancestor, John Meik, was served as heir to his father in 1713 for lands of Drimmie. His father George Meik died in 1711. I have recently come into some documents that revealed that George Meik married sometime after 1701 and before 1705 to Isabell Nisbet, relict of Thomas Robertson of Dundee. I am wondering if John Meik might have been Isabel's son or a son from a previous [and unknown] marriage of George Meik? In other words, if born after 1703, could John then be served as Heir in 1713? And, I have also found that this/my George Meik was "minister of the gospel at Straiton" [and graduated from St Andrews U. "M A" in 1672]. So, he's the one who owned Drimmie, Forfar for a brief time. James Meik of Ledcassie and Thomas Meik of Marywell, [near Couparangus] were mentioned also in a 1711 document; Thomas Meik was "Tutor and Curator nominate by the deceased Mr George Meik late minister of the gospel at Straiton thereafter heritor of Drimmie to John Meik his eldest son and his other children conform to his nomination... " I would appreciate your thoughts on this...thanks Liz of BC Canada
