I don't live in the area, I live in Australia but it is amazing what you can find with a computer these days. You mentioned that there was a Lizzie but I wasn't able to find a birth for her. Is it possible that Robert and Catherine adopted Margaret's baby Elizabeth. John W Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [ANGUS] Forbes
    2. Do you have any Forbes married to a Robertson sometime in the late 1800's. He would have had a daughter Mae who married a Forbes and had at least one son named Gordon. Gordon was a teacher after WW2. Mae and her husband had a bakery in Edinburgh and their son Gordon became a school teacher in Kirkcauldy and retired from there. Mae's father would have been one of my great uncles but I still don't know which one. Her father's family lived in Dundee from after the 1871 census to at least 1885 with some of the boys staying in Dundee and maybe a William moving to Lanark. His father moved back to Perth with the two youngest boys. I try all avenues to find these brother's of my grandfather. My email is _ekrhaughee@aol.com_ (mailto:ekrhaughee@aol.com) . Kaye

Author: jdwaite1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ans.general/6023.1.1.1.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sorry but this is a bit of a long one. Further to my earlier reply I have traced Catherine's family via the 1901 census and it helps to build a picture of that families early lives. Robert Campbell aged 19 shepherd of Panbride married Elizabeth Kydd aged 23 of Barry. They were married at Barry 15th September 1871 after banns according to the terms of the Church of Scotland. Robert's parents were Robert Campbell shepherd and Margaret Wylie Campbell (nee Lindsay) Elizabeth's parents were John Kydd farmer and Catherine Kydd (nee Bellie). 1901 census has the family of Robert Campbell living in Barry, the family is: Robert aged 49 shepherd born Farnell Elizabeth aged 52 wife born Carnoustie James aged 28 son widower Stone mason born Falkland Islands Isabella aged 22 daughter Flax weaver born Falkland Islands John aged 19 son Shepherd born Barry Forfarshire Colin aged 17 son Apprentice stone mason born Barry Forfar Robina aged 13 daughter scholar born Barry Forfarshire Lindsay aged 10 son Scholar born Barry Forfarshire James aged 5 grandson born Barry Forfarshire David aged 2 grandson born Barry Forfarshire. >From this you can see that They married 1871 and sailed for the Falklands soon after, perhaps that was why he married so young at 19 as he was already contracted to go to the Falklands. They stayed until after Isabella's birth having had three children, James circa 1872, Elizabeth circa 1874 and Isabella circa 1876. They were back in Barry in time for Margaret's birth 2nd February 1879 at Clayholes, Barry.I think Clayholes may be a farm where Robert's father worked. Robert's son James married Elizabeth Walker 9th December 1896 and they had two sons James born 1897 and David Walker Campbell born 2nd July 1898 Lochend Cottages Barry. The 1911 census shows that Robert and Elizabeth also had a daughter Margaret born 2nd February 1879 Clayholes, Barry she was a domestic nurse and had an illegitimate daughter Elizabeth Kydd Campbell born 8th March 1910 Royal Maternity Hospital, Edunburgh. Margaret was obviously sent away for the birth but was home in time for the 1911 census where both her and her daughter were living with her parents at Lochend cottages. Hope this is of some help. Author: jdwaite1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ans.general/6023.1.1.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: William Hanton Dalgety age 21 journeyman mason married Catherine Campbell age 25 20th Oct 1899 at Lochend Cottages Carnoustie as per the Scottish Church requirements and after bans. Williams parents were John Dalgety journeyman mason deceased and Mary Dalgety (nee Myles) Catherines parents were Robert Campbell shepherd and Elizabeth Campbell (nee Kydd) Witnesses at the marriage are John Smith Dalgety and Bella Campbell. 1911 census has a Katherine Dalgety age 37 born Falkland Islands working as a jute weaver in Barry Carnoustie. With her are her two sons James aged 11 and William aged 9. Although her husband is not present she is not shown as widowed so he is possibly off working some where else. I checked Findmypast for overseas births for Catherine around 1874 and found only one born at sea. It doesn't have a date but is in the record book for 1862 - 1875 and as all entries are numbered hers is later on the list so it can be suggested that it is about 1874. This may be her birth but no other details are given. It should be noted that at the time of her birth circa 1874 the British Government were trying to establish a colony on the Falkland Islands at Port Stanley and they had recruited many families from Scotland. There was a great need for shepherds as sheep were a large part of the program. Catherine's father was a shepherd so it is possible that this was why he left Scotland. I used the Parish of Barry as it dominates Carnoustie up to the Lochty Burn then widened the search against Angus and all districts and parishes. Its strange that the first search which brought up the 1901 census worked without a problem. I will have a chat with the site and see what they say, I could be doing something wrong we will see. Author: farfarloon Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ans.general/6023.1.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Let me clarify a point that may be causing a problem. Births marriages and deaths are recorded under the Parish where the event took place. Towns and Parishes may have the same name, Forfar for example, large cities, such as Dundee, may be divided into several Parishes for administrative purposes and some towns grew up around a resource (water power for example) and never became a Parish in their own right. Carnoustie is such a place. Part of the town is in the parish of Barrie and part in the parish of Panbride. So, if you are looking for a life event on SP in the Carnoustie area it will be under one of these names, not Carnoustie. Forfarian's pointers to Dalget(t)y records in Barrie are therefor worth looking into. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I tried the births, as wide a search then more accurate with no luck. The 1905 census has no record but the 1901 does yet when I tried it again it failed. I know the boys James and William Jnr grew up in the Carnoustie area as they played football for the local team. I really wanted to trace Catherine's maiden name and the birth of Willian Jnr as well as the sister. The sister might have given me a link to an existing family and Catherine may have done the same. I have already established the U.S. side and been in contact but they don't know much at this point. Thanks for your help Brian. Use some of thme to find James' birth certificate. NB if he was aged 2 in 1901, he would have been born in either 1898 or 1899, so you need to search both years. The birth certificate will tell you Catherine's maiden name, and the date and place of her marriage to William. The 1911 census might tell you in more detail where Catherine was born. You should have enough credits to look that up as well. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
