What can't be done from afar is seeing the places they actually lived. Make sure they take a good camera. Have you, or they, done much research already? Our lines include; Mc/MacDonald from Kirriemuir and Perthshire, Barrie also from Kirriemuir and Perthshire, Sommerville which appear to be from all over, and McCulloch from Lanarkshire. What I am hoping to learn from all of you is where to send her, what to send her with, and what information I should ask her to focus on (what can only be obtained in Scotland). All advice and information is much appreciated. And if you need more information, please do not hesitate to ask. I have a problem with two brothers which I hope you may be able to help me solve. In the census’s Stewart Young said he was born about 1820 in Dundee and his brother William, born about 1814, was not sure where he was born and gave Ireland and Dundee as places of birth (by 1841 they were both living in Greenock West) When William married in 1852 his marriage cert stated he was the son of the late William Young ‘ Bleacher ’ in Ireland. I want to know if they were born in Dundee and need your help, please, then I will know if the parents were in Scotland or Ireland although I don’t think I will be able to trace the family in Ireland as they never declared which part they came from. Regards Ann
Any surviving Poor House records would be with the Local authority responsible. For Forfar, that would be Angus Archives at Restenneth; for Glasgow, try the Mitchell Library, Glasgow. Please note that many of these records have vanished over the years, so there is no guarantee that they exist now. Dear all - this is just to let the list know that I'm going to be living in Dundee, and am busy packing for the move just now. So apologies for being very quiet and not responding to anything as things are pretty hectic here, but I hope to be able, in the near future, to be a bit more help with some queries. Best regards, Jenny

I believe that George BRUCE b1783 Airlie (1st son of George BRUCE/BRUICE and Elizabeth GEORGE of Airlie [who you know of]) married Jean ORCHISON in Edinburgh 1804 and had 4 children. And that he later married Elizabeth DAVIDSON in Dundee and had another 4 or 5 children. Your William may be a brother or cousin of Jean??? Henry Adam BUTTER (1881-?) is the great-nephew of James DOWNIE's wife, Margaret BUTTER, and thus the reference to "his cousin Henry DOWNIE" in AB's (escocia7) post of 27 Aug 2012 is of particular interest as it is probable that Henry DOWNIE's ancestry converges with my DOWNIE Scottish ancestry.
