It was a territorial Army Hall I was told on Bank Street in Brechin. Local people would of trained here before they went off to war 1939-1945. I am interested in pictures or where I would find out about those who trained there. Thankyou Gail Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I visited the Dundee Central Library at Wellgate Centre during 12-18 Sept 2008. Since it was my first visit there, I wasn't really aware of what might be new. I have used Scotland's People on line, so didn't pay much attention to anything they might have had on display at Wellgate. Hopefully a Dundonian who is more familiar with the Wellgate library can shed more light on what you have described. Today's Anglo Celtic Connections blog http://anglo-celtic-connections.blogspot.com/ introduces a searchable online database that may be of interest to some on the list SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 08, 2009 British and Irish Architects Chris Paton blogs that "the Irish Government has funded a new online database of interest to those with architects in their ancestry. The Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720-1940 at www.dia.ie can be searched by the name of the architect in question, or by the work he created." Chris also mentions that Scottish architects can be researched online, at www.scottisharchitects.org.uk, which covers 1840-1980. There does not seem to be an equivalent site for English or Welsh architects. There is some limited information at www.lookingatbuildings.org which serves as "an introduction to architecture with pages on Building Types, architectural styles and traditions and building materials and methods of construction, and an expanding guide and introduction to buildings in seven of England's cities. Research tools including glossary, links, an index of architects and their works and a guide to further reading on all aspects of English architecture." Arlene
While browsing Hawaii history I came across Alexander Adams born Dec 27 1780 in Abroath, although the article lists John Fyfe, Earl of Fyfe born c1754 Arbroath as his father it states he used his mothers surname. Alexander joined the ship Zephyr when he was 12 and by 1809 was in Hawaii by then he was a Captain. Anyone looking for a messing Alexander Fyfe/Adams might find the following item of interest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Adams_(Hawaii) Arlene
In the recent newsletter A Web version of this Newsletter, with some graphics and newspaper-style layout, is available at http://www.RampantScotland.com/letter.htm there is mention under Who Do We Think We Are? that Dundee has recently opened a new facility in its Central Library. The article is about the increasing number of visitors to Scotland making genealogy research a part of their vacation package with a stop at the expanded "Scotland's People Centre" at West Register House in Edinburgh. Also mentions the Mitchell Library's Glasgow room and the Dundee Central Libray. Has anyone visited the Dundee Central Library since this new "facility" opened. I checked the web page and could not find any particularly new information at the library so was wondering what is to offer for the visitor combining genealogical research with a visit to Angus.
