    3. Hi Liz, Thank you for your email. There are a couple of George CAITHNESS's that I have so far but all, I think, would be either too young or born around the same time, so unlikely to have children named after them. My CAITHNESS's seem to weave back and forth from Panbride and Dundee but mainly in Panbride. The Alexander listed on the information from Barbara was my 5G Uncle so a different Alexander CAITHNESS but still very useful. I do have a Janet CAITHNESS (born 1800 daughter of Alexander CAITHNESS (my 5G Uncle) and Janet WATSON) who married a Robert NICOLL in 1826 in Dundee. I have a dozen Helen Patons and a couple of George Stewarts, but at present I don't have a married couple of these names. If you could name the parents of these two, that might be enough. Dates would also help. I have the Craig OPR on microfilm, but that only goes up to 1854 of course. Anything later, you are best to do a search on the scotlandspeople website. Gordon. He went on to tell a story about GEORGE ROBERTSON NICOLL [born Dundee 1824] and how sailing from Dundee to America then on to Australia but being shipwrecked in Figi and "his shipmates being eaten by cannabals" . I was about to discount all this but discovered by Googling <George Robertson Nicoll> , that he wrote up his 50 years of travels in 1899, and the manuscript is in the Australian Archives!. a summary was written up in NLA News, July 2003 called "For the Love of Travel: China through the eyes of a nineteenth century Scot". I understand that GEORGE ROBERTSON NICOLL returned to England {isle of Wight] : he was there in 1901 census and he apparently died there. OK a trip to Australia is needed here. Liz of BC Canada

    3. thanks Barbara, the George Caithness info much appreciated... my "THOMAS NICOLL" was a "blockmaker' in Dundee [1785-1841]; I am not sure if that was making "block and tackle" or in the print industry. .the naming after a shipmaster could imply in shipping industry but his son's son was a bookbinder and another son was another blockmaker...a mystery. another NICOLL person, George Robertson Nicoll [b. Dundee 1824] was apparently in shipping in Australia? and was a shipbuilder...am wondering if HE might appear in the book also? and JAMES ROBERTSON NICOLL[b. Dundee 1817] "had interests in Peterhead Whaling Fleet" according to elderly family members. If you can bear another lookup, I'd appreciate it. thanks Liz of BC Canada
