    3. Margaret said > > Angus Council has 112,000 records on line. And the commercial website charges one pound fifty to view each item. The free index gives only a name, date of burial and date of death, with nothing to indicate the age or marital status of the deceased, and so diffult to identify an entry as the one you seek (unless you already know the death date). I tested it out with one of my Angus surnames, and of 18 "hits", only one was easily identified in my 10,000+ name family database. It could be expensive to find a specific individual from the index data. Gordon.

    3. 4. Help! Vista and Scotlandspeople images Hello Irene I was in exactly the same boat, my family gave me a new laptop- I had said I don't want vista- but I got it! When I first tried to alter/cut images I had a real problem. I store all or most of my images in the folder for the relevant surname.I suppose I should put them in My Pictures but I don't- I want everything together for that particular family. I too was cursing Office Picture Manager until I learnt how to use it. I go to the folder I want- click on it then find the image I need. Click on that and bring it up- I am now in Windows photo gallery. Then go I to OPEN and click on the title Office Picture Manager. I am at the moment looking at a page from a will downloaded from Scotland's People. I have gone through the same procedure- found the folder for the surname, clicked on that, found the will I wanted- clicked on a page which has come up in Windows photo gallery, gone along the top of the screen which has the various icons for file, fix, info, print, email, make a movie, burn, print and OPEN. I clicked on OPEN and it brings up 4 options- Internet explorer-no, Personal Ancestral File or PAF- no, Paint- no or Microsoft Office Picture Manager -yes - click on that and my image is there again ready to do with it as I want. Now the other way to find you image is to click on the Microsoft image at the bottom left hand corner of your screen. That brings up a display of programs available on your computer on the left and on the right what is available on your computer Documents, Pictures, computer Network, connect to and RECENT Items - Click on that if your down load from Scotland's people is recent it may be there. Now just above the Microsoft logo at the bottom left hand corner of your screen when you click to bring up all of this is a little sign saying SEARCH. What did you name your image from Scotland's People? type it into this space- your computer will search for you and bring up- hopefully the document you want or maybe several with similar words in their title. Hope this is of help. One of my gripes with Office Picture Manager is that you cannot turn an image just by a small degree- its 90 degrees or nothing, sometimes a picture just needs a little tweak. 2. Reply to Mitchell researchers. This family has been a puzzle I can not solve for a long time. I am trying to establish the parentage of my ggggrandmother, Marjory (May) Mitchell (b. 1763?) who married John Farquharson (b. abt 1758) in 1791/92. I have tried to put together a possible family with Patrick as her father and among the many children who fit into the time frame of 16 children he may have fathered, there is his (possible) second born Alexander b.1742 who may have married Margaret Milne and had a son Alex. in 1784. Among the other children of this Patrick I had listed son George b. 1751, m. to May Cable with ch. Ann 1791, Margaret 1793, Muldrum 1799, William 1804, James 1807 and Charles 1811. Geneve, I am curious about your work with the father of George as Alex. Have you been able to document this, because I will need to restructure my info if this is proven. It may help my research or it may mean that I need to rethink my theory. Irene in Michigan was helpful in the past, but I still have not been able to move backward beyond the 1791/92 marriage of May and John and the birth of their first son David c. on Dec 25, 1792. Any information on the Mitchells or Farquharsons of Forfar or Kirriemuir is always of interest in my research. Although you may get help on the Angus board you are more likely to get help on a NZ one, then armed with the Scots origins of your people you could repost here or on a location board/list relevant to the enquiry NJO Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Irene It sounds like a setting within Vista to me Sorry I can't help specifically with that as have managed to avoid Vista so far (no doubt have that dubious pleasure to come some day) But a solution that may solve your problem is a free download of Irfanview Its a very useful image program, it allows easy recropping, flipping, change to negative etc I have not found anything it won't open http://www.irfanview.com/ Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Please help an old lady! > > I can't complain about my new computer because it was a gift from my son. > But it has Vista on it and I can't seem to open my files of certificates > that I have previously downloaded from Scotlands People, including a new > one > from today.
