Some of the "clans" were in fact more like extended families based on landholding, rather than a geographically-based grouping. Sande or Sandy is indeed a popular version of Alexander, and as a forename, Alexander is often familiarly known as Eck. Gordon. Most university libraries will have these, and many main public libraries will have a subscription to the Scottish History Society and so automatically get a copy of each publication (like me). 3. Hi Listers, It's great to be back after a nice long trip to the UK, my 4th one since 2000. I'm already thinking of one in about 4 years, to take the little grandson to meet a lot of kid cousins there. I just have to include someone else who'll drive over there, so I can spend lots of time at archives without boring my traveling companion(s). :) Jim Bundy Page 73 >From preceeding Page 905/6/9 3. There is a paragraph in the Glasgow Herald of 9 November 1860, and one in the Leeds Mercury of 13 November 1860. I can't give you a verbatim transcript for copyright reasons, but the gist of it is that William Butchart was set upon and robbed on his station platform on 2 November 1860, and he was found drowned the following Tuesday. It was thought that he had killed himself while the balance of his mind was disturbed by the worry over the stolen money, which amounted to a little over £31. He had been very dejected since the robbery, and he left a note saying that neither he nor any of his family had spent any of the missing £31. Anne

    3. I am indirectly related through Betty/Elizabeth Cable b. 1832 in Forfar who married William Allan Cuthbert in 1854 in Forfar.  William's father, Alexander, was a sibling of my ancestor David who married Janet Mitchell in 1811, Forfar.   Carol --- On Wed, 10/26/11, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ANGUS] Fyfe's Petrie's, Kerr's, Kinnears, Milne, Lowson, Bell, - ALL FORFAR To: [email protected] Date: Wednesday, October 26, 2011, 4:26 PM This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
