If you are interested in cookery and genealogy you might like a new cookbook called “Dear Francesca A Cookbook with Love” by Mary Contini (it’s on special offer at my local Borders bookshop). It is written by the daughter if Italian immigrants to her own daughter and mixes in family recipes with information on what their life was like back in the Italian villages they came from (around Picinisco in Frosinone province) and how they came to Scotland (Edinburgh). There is also a family tree at the front and scattered throughout are family pictures. Mary’s aunt married into my family which is why I was interested as it had pictures of my aunt when she was a child but I was very interested and moved by the details in the first couple of chapters of what life was like for those first immigrants. I am interested in SALVETA (anywhere) and PELOSI from Picinisco and then Manchester (1880's onwards) so if any turn up your families please get in touch. I also have many of the CD’s from the LDS – 1881 UK Census, 1880 US Census, 1881 Canadian Census, UK Vital Records (new edition) and European Vital Records which does have some Italian and French information. If you want a lookup in any of these let me know – as long as you understand it may take me some time to do them. Carla Salveta (Scotland)
