Hi Stephen > My relative Valerie Fudge born in England in 1925 but of an Anglo Italian > family on her mother's side, married some time before 1979 a man by the name > of Caprioglio & was in 1979 living in Segrate just outside Milan. Your best resource may be living relatives since it is not very long ago. I presume this relative is not living since it would probably not be appropriate to discuss living people on an email list. This is a time period that probably this list's members would have very little knowledge of researching. (e.g. my relative left Italy before 1851) You are looking for a record that would be in the 75 year privacy period. Only the subject or a family member can request an original certificate. I think that means you would first have to get approval as a family member to have a commune official search the records for you (you may not be a sufficiently close family member). You may have to pay to have several communes searched if you do not know where they married. Each search may take a matter of months, especially since you have no date. This information is from a quick skim through Trafford Cole's excellent book, "Italian genealogical records" (Ancestry Inc, 1995). Overseas registration. I seem to remember we were able to register a birth in New Zealand with UK records, but I'm not sure where that information is then available since the registration district is ?? I presume the same is possible in Italy through the British Consulate. However, it would not be compulsory to register the marriage in question. Best of luck with talking to relatives. Daphne
