    3. Patricia: Intermarriage seems to have been very common amongst the Italian and Irish communities in Clerkenwell in Victorian times. Also, looking glass frame maker was a common occupation in that area. For example, my ancestor John MOMBELLI, variously described in records as looking glass maker or gilder & carver married Jane BUCKLEY nee DUKE who was Irish. You do not give Charles's wife's maiden name but it is quite possible that one or other had Italian connections somewhere along the line. Bear in mid also that the area was somewhat unhealthy and early deaths and remarriage of the survivor led to step-relationships Derek Woodman ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mrs Julie Goucher" <anglers.rest@virgin.net> To: <ANGLO-ITALIAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 25 May 2004 22:29 Subject: [Anglo-Italian] Fw: The Irish Connection > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Lindsley, Patricia" <PLindsley@buckscc.gov.uk> > To: "ANGLO-ITALIAN-D-request (E-mail)" <ANGLO-ITALIAN-D-request@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, May 25, 2004 10:00 PM > Subject: The Irish Connection > > > > My ancestor Charles GALEY/GAILY gives his birth place, on the 1871 Census, as > Ireland.
