The Whitehaven News Oct. 7, 1869 A Case For Investigation Mr. NATHAN, a British subject; aged nineteen years, has been in prison at Milan ever since April last, upon no charge except he was found travelling from Lugano, where his mother resides, and where MAZZINI was staying at the time; and also that upon the journey he was in company with a young man who was out with GARIBALDI in the campaign of 1866. Upon these grounds, and no other, it is said, Mr. NATHAN has been all the past six months immured in an Italian Gaol, without trial, or even a statement of his offence. At the close of the last session a question was asked upon the subject by Mr. TAYLOR, the member for Leicester, and the reply was, that the English Government had made application to the Government of Italy to have the prisoner released on bail. Nothing however has come of that intervention; the young British subject remains incarcerated, and it is due to the public feeling of this country, even more than to the distressed family of the lad, that the failure should be generally known.
