    3. I am new to this list and would welcome any information relating to the BAFICO family who have been in Cardiff since approximately 1870. My g-grandfather Giovanni Battista (John) BAFICO, born in Genoa in 1854, married Sarah RICHARDS in Cardiff in 1873. One of the witnesses to the marriage was Frederick MAZZEI. I have lots of information about what John Bafico did, and his descendants, but would very much like to find out more about his family in Italy - who they were, and exactly where he came from. Has anyone come across the name? Celia Villa-Landa Helping to put the UK census free on-line. Join us as http://freecen.rootsweb.com

    3. Hi Celia, just on the remote chance that you haven't looked at this Italian surnames' site before: http://www.gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/genera.html Bafico is concentrated in Liguria. There are others in, Piemonte, Lombardia, Sardinia and Sicilia. Except for Liguria, they are in single figures, and in Liguria there aren't that many either. Maybe you could contact some of them through the White pages and see if there is a connection? You'd be phoning, and writing forever if you followed the Mazzei names on that site :-) I hope someone can give you more specific information. Good luck with your search. 3. Thanks Rod! I didn't know that site - it is clear that I was right in thinking he was from Genoa! I only mentioned the Mazzei connection because of the marriage certificate and I understood that someone else had been researching Mazzei's in Cardiff, but it is clearly a more problematic name to pursue. I'll stick to my own family from now on!
