Hi again Christine, in 1891 census I found Richard Ferrenice b Italy 1870 (census looks more age 27 to me but then it has the usual black line through it) he was a stationary engine driver (as Walter was) boarding at 162 Liverpool Road, Barton upon Irwell Lancs. Most of the people were employed as ship canal labourers. I'm guessing it was on the Manchester Ship Canal somewhere around Eccles. No doubt our other members will know more. Can't find any trace of Richard later. The name of the family he was lodging with is unreadable. It's a puzzle isn't it why they would both have such English first names. Chat again soon, Tina -------Original Message------- From: Christine Charles Date: 01/29/05 04:54:14 To: ANGLO-ITALIAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Anglo-Italian] Anglo Italian FHS Thankyou Tina but I do have all that information. Hello Tina & list Tina wrote: <snip> It's a puzzle isn't it why they would both have such English first names. <snip> It's not unknown; with the Italians I'm related to, my 3x g grandfather, born in Venice(?) in about 1775, used the name Joseph when he married in London in 1799. (I don't know when he came here). I presume that he was Giuseppe in Italy. Gioani (sic) Batissta Pagliano was born in Piedmont in 1764, came to London from Italy in 1794 and was recorded as John in the marriage register in 1798 and in rate books from that date although he used Gioani in other documents as late as 1810. Perhaps they used the anglicised version of names for official purposes Colin Moretti I'm a member of the Anglo-Italian Family History Society http://www.anglo-italianfhs.org.uk Looking for MORETTI, PAGLIANO, BARGMAN, in London TYAS, IVESON, WOOD, ABBOTT in Yorkshire
