Dear Elaine, Thank you for organising a very interesting talk. It is always good to get together and swap notes. Kind regards Patricia Lindsley GAILY/GALEY SABERI -----Original Message----- From: Elaine Collins [mailto:ecollins@wca.co.uk] Sent: 27 September 2004 22:38 To: ANGLO-ITALIAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Meeting of the Anglo-Italian Family History society Just a reminder that we've got David Green, geographical historian from King's College, London, giving a talk entitled 'Creating a community: godparents and organ grinders in Victorian London'. This will be held at 2pm Saturday 9 October, at The Hyde Park Family History Centre, 64/68 Exhibition Road London SW7 2PA. The talk is free to members, with a suggested donation of £3 for non-members. There will be a drop-in advice clinic from noon onwards for anyone who wants help with a family history problem, and of course you are welcome to use the wonderful facilities of the centre (which has a large collection of films of Italian church and civil records) both before and after the talk. The Society will have a supply of books and CDs for sale, and if you wish to borrow a book from the society library, this is a good time to arrange to collect a preordered title, without incurring postage costs. We need to give the centre some idea of numbers, so that they know which room to put us in, so please email me if you are thinking of coming. Guests welcome. Look forward to seeing many of you there. Hi Lisa, I am sure any member of AIFHS who can help, will do so with pleasure. I tried a couple of things for you in the context of the geographical location/occupation you so helpfully provided and secondly the Census returns. Even though these may not take you back that far in time, they do help to corroborate what you already know and build a wider picture of your family. The first search you can make is _http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/b1.asp_ (http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/b1.asp) where there are three directories containing the name Cuneo in Sheffield. The first of 18 "hits" in the 1879 Directory for Sheffield, shows Louis Cuneo living at 42 Copper Street, and organ etc. repairer who might be related to the second "hit" Andrew Cuneo living at 41 Lambert St, an ice cream manufacturer. Whilst there are no earlier Directories yet digitised and on line, there are later ones at 1905 and1911 with "hits" if you wish to see how people and businesses might move around. My second search is of the C1881 which has a lot of hitsfor Cuneo and variations, 6 of whom were born in Italy, your Andrew being the oldest born in 1827. The list is as follows:- CUNEO, Andrew Head <1827> Ital York CUNIO, Elizabeth Head <1832> Lanc CUNEO, Maria Wife <1834> Ital York CUNEO, Antonio <1835> Ital Esse CUNEO, Columbia Wife <1839> Ital York CUNEO, Louis Head <1840> Ital York CUNIO, Albert Head <1849> Lond Lond CUNIO, Ann Wife <1851> Lond Lond CUNIO, Ambrose Son <1860> Lanc CUNEO, Francis Son <1862> York York CUNIO, John Son <1862> Lanc CUNEO, John Son <1863> York CUNEO, Carlo <1864> Ital Glam CUNIO, Francis Son <1865> Lanc CUNEO, Andrew Son <1866> York CUNIO, Virginia Dau <1868> Lanc CUNEO, Nicholas Son <1869> York York CUNEO, Anthony Son <1871> York CUNEO, Joseph Son <1871> York York CUNEO, Louisa Dau <1874> York York CUNEO, Theresa Dau <1877> York CUNIO, Nellie Florence Dau <1879> Lond Lond CUNIO, Annie Beatrice Dau <1881> This is the full record for that Andrew in 1881:- Dwelling: 41 Lambert Street Census Place: Sheffield, York, England Source: FHL Film 1342122 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 4644 Folio 69 Page 29 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Andrew CUNEO M 54 M Italy Rel: Head Occ: Gardener Maria CUNEO M 47 F Italy Rel: Wife Occ: Dressmaker Andrew CUNEO U 15 M Sheffield Rel: Son Occ: Labourer (Out Of Work) Anthony CUNEO 10 M Sheffield Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Theresa CUNEO 4 F Sheffield Rel: Daur John CUNEO U 18 M Sheffield Rel: Son Occ: Rolling Mill (Iron) John O'DONNELL M 60 M Ireland Rel: Lodger Occ: Boot & Shoe Maker Immediately we have a contradiction - in 1879 an ice cream manufacturer and in 1881, a gardener. Family history is full of research anomalies. As I am late for an appointment, I must leave it there for now, but will be happy to supply further Census info if you are interested, plus sources for immigrant passenger lists etc. Happy hunting. Hi Tony, You are in luck if you have a Latter Day Saints ( Mormons) office in your city. They have Civil records for Sant'Elia Fiumerapido from1809-1899. Go to their website www.familyhistory.com then do a place search for "fiumerapido" dig in even further and print out the list of the records they have. Then go to your local LDS office pay a small fee and you can search through yourself. If you come across" D'Agostino" let me know. Hi everyone, I am new to this list so please be kind !! I am looking for any information or tips on how to get any information about Italian ancestry. I have managed to trace back to an Andrew CUNEO (born 1827 in Italy), he was married to Maria (born 1834 in Italy). That is all the information I have. They started an Ice-Cream making company in Sheffield in the 1860's. I have no idea how to trace back any further or to find out when they came to the UK and by what means. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Lisa _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Declare Yourself - Register online to vote today! http://vote.yahoo.com
