    3. Hi Su The more recent the easiest it is for them. The e mail for the ufficio di stato civile in Morfasso is [email protected] You can also try writing to the Archivio di Stato di Piacenza Piazza Citadella 29 Palazzo Faranese Piacenza 29100 the e mail:[email protected] This is where I got the 1850 documenti. If you write there ask for the estratti which are the handwritten accounts of any event such as birth , publication of bans preceeding a wedding , and military service records Felicia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Su Baccino" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 2:26 PM Subject: Re: [Anglo-Italian] New Subscriber > Thanks Felicia. 3. If by chance any of your ancestors immigrated to the US, specifically the Barre, Vermont area for the granite industry, you might want to take a look at the following site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/VERMONTLATEST.html I have copied the 1905 Barre City Directory and it has been posted on this website in 10 installments. Scroll down through list and the first one you will see is V-Z - the beginning will be at the very bottom. Many, many Italians immigrated to this area to work in the granite sheds and many were sculptors.

    1. [Anglo-Italian] Hi everyone
    2. My Italian ancestor was my paternal grandmother's father, who died aged 38 or so in 1918 as a result of mustard gas in WW1. So, born about 1880 - where? His family lived at somewhere apparently called Waterdawn (sic) Manor in or around Purley, Surrey. The family came from Naples, possibly Casserta. He eloped with my greatgrandmother - Sarah Emilia ? (who's own mother was Spanish) who was a maid and was disinherited by his family. My Grandmother was taken as small child to visit her aunts - so, siblings and descendants? He was subsequently known as Francis John Villas. We now think this may have been because the Vicar who married them couldn't spell Villiers (which doesn't sound Italian - perhaps someone could enlighten me?) I initially thought it may have been an anglicisation. I know that Francis and Sarah were very poor and my Grandmother was born in Peabody Buildings (the charitable housing trust), and on her marriage certificate (1926) he's noted as a Builder (dec'd). The family by then were living in Bevenden Street, London. If this rings any bells with anyone, please let me know. Many thanks and best wishes to you all with your research. Hille Cook
