    1. [Anglo-Italian] YACAMINI and variations
    2. Elizabeth Moody
    3. Hello I'm new to the list. Many thanks to those of you who set it up. I am interested in the IACOMINI family from Vorno. Two members of this family settled in North East Scotland where they worked as stucco figure makers and their name became Anglicised (if that is the right term for Scotland!): * Joseph (aka Santi) YACOMENI who was born in 1801, married in Dundee in 1827 and died in Aberdeen in 1872, and * Francis YACOMENE who married in Perth in 1831 and again in 1833 and who died some time before 1854. Joseph was the son of Guiseppe IACOMINI (a farmer) and Angela Lucrezia DECANINI. I know nothing of Francis's parents, although I guess Joseph and Francis were related as Francis was present at the baptism of Joseph's son in 1833. (Needless to say I am descended from the one who has left very little trace of himself in the records!) Both men had children and the name has developed numerous variations of which the most common are YACOMINI or YACOMENI. I have found them in records as YACKOMINIE, JACQUIOMINI, GIACOMINI, YACOMEN and many others, as well as mistranscribed as LA OMINI and LIACOMINI. I have a couple of questions which I hope more knowledgeable folk may be able to answer: * what should I read to find out more about stucco figure making - and why two young men would leave the sunny skies of Tuscany and settle in NE Scotland? *neither Joseph nor Francis married in Catholic churches but Joseph had some of his children baptised as Catholics and some in other churches as he travelled around NE Scotland (presumably for work), his second marriage in 1858 took place in a Catholic church and some of his children married in Catholic churches while others did not - was it normal for Italian immigrants to be this cavalier about religion; didn't the Ministers of the other churches check? Many thanks for any help anyone is able to give - and I'd obviously love to hear from any one else researching the same family. (I did make contact with another researcher about 4 years ago but I stupidly managed to lose her details when we moved house.) Elizabeth Kent

They arrived here about 1900 and lived in Clerkenwell until 1914 and then in Soho after that. I'd love to hear from anyone researching the same names; I've got more info. and some records from St. Peter's Italian church linked to these names if this would help anyone. Thanks Anne Mitchell

    1. [Anglo-Italian] More 1880 US census look ups? Read Carefully!!
    2. Hi all, Anymore FREE look ups anyone? If I didn't answer your request then you were accidently deleted in the shuffle. Just resend it. If you don't have all the info, send me what you do have and I'll see what I can do. If it's too much then I'll let you know. Please read carefully... 1. Everyone alive, in the US by June 1st, 1880 is indexed. 2. You do not need an exact year of birth, the search allows for a 5 year difference either way. The year of birth could be different with each census. It is hardly ever accurate! The closer the better. 3. You do not have to tell me this but sometimes it lowers the hits if you don't have much info. What is the race? Black, White, Mulatto, Native American or Mexican? 4. Oklahoma Territory is not in the census. 5. Again...unless it's uncommon, I need a first and last name. 6. If you don't have much info then you can try giving me the names of a spouse and/or children that I might find on the 1880 census living with the person you're looking for. What you'll receive from me... 1. The name of the head of household and everyone living in it. 2. The relationship of everyone to the head of household. If the relationship is listed as other, then they are not related. 3. The age, race and sex of everyone. 4. The occupation of everyone. 5. The birth place of everyone and their parents. 6. Microfilm info. There is no limit on how many look ups you can request, I only ask that you limit it to 2 surnames per email. My website is coming back to life slowly but surely. You can check it out now or you can try agin in a day or 2 if it doesn't work. http://members.aol.com/ella12866/index.html Take care, Ella

    1. [Anglo-Italian] Website's complete & I can do look-ups in 1880 US census. Read Carefully!
    2. Hello everyone! My website finally has my family info on it. Just click on the surnames there and you will be taken to the proper page. Also, I added many many more links, and guess what. They're organized! http://members.aol.com/ella12866/index.html I'm willing to do look ups in the 1880 US census. In order to be able to answer everyone's requests in a timely and organized manner, please follow these guidelines. Otherwise I may not be able to handle your request. First and foremost, email me privately off of the list with "1880 Census Look-up" in the subject of your email if you don't want my response posted to the list. Particularly since I click on the reply button out of habit. Unless the name is very uncommon, please supply the following.. 1. A first and last name. In other words, "Please give me all the SMITHs in New York" is something I can't help you with. 2. The state that the person was born in. 3. The state and possibly the city where the person would have been enumerated in 1880. In other words, "Please look up all John SMITHs. I don't know what state you would find him in." is something else I can't help you with. 3. An approximate year of birth. The more precise the better. The census index allows for up to a 5 year difference. Good luck, Ella Surnames I am researching are: COLEMAN, HARLING and EAVES from Lancashire, England to Phila.,PA KIRCHER, WEIKEL and RITTER/RUTTER from Germany BAIRD and JORDAN from Ireland CRISTALDI from Italy Any variations? That's ok. I've seen a few. Other names in my family are... CRUMLEY, HARVEY, MARKER, STEIN, STOLLEY, TITTERMARY... I piece together the past so my children won't be as confused as I am.

Agnes Elizabeth MORETTI Christened 27 August 1856 at Tanner St Workhouse, Bermondsey, London, England There are also some Morettis in Glasgow and Westminster on this website, too. 2. Ruth
    3. Hi Sharon, I have no idea of the laws in those times 1800's, but with your family you have three different countries with three different laws. I think that it is possible that if your Grandfather was born in the UK he had a right to be British, but it is possible that in the eyes of the Italian Gov. as his father was italian he also had Italian Nationality. So when they arrived in the states they would then have come under the American laws. In my own personal situation. I was born British but when I got married here in Spain I asked for Spanish Nationality. This was approved but i had to sign a document giving up my British Nationality, but in the eyes of the british Gov. I have dual Nationality. But here in Spain I am only Spanish. Do you get the idea???? i would'nt worry to much about the fact that they had to give up Italian Nationality as I really think it was more of a beurocratic problem rather than anything else.
