Leonard Chatterton age 57 born NY (who was in Auburn, NY census 1850) and son Oscar Chatterton, 34, by 1870 are in Chicago, IL Ward 12. In 1860 they were in St. Louis MO Ward 3 (listing, Leonard, wife Eliza, sons Oscar, William & Augusta). So there was definitely a westward migration. A Geo. W. Chatterton (poss. his brother?, as Leonard also named a son Geo.) was based in IL. If Leonard was born 1812, am wondering about a link with your Jacob. What do you think? It's a patchword quilt approach. Very hard to nail down details.---L. Clayton
