Joel Andrus . They settled in Illinois . A son is said to have been a member of the Ills. Leg; I just now found this family and it's yours too; here in Chaut. and my puter today is giving me fits; here goes; Daniel Lewis ANDRUS Birth: 27 OCT 1788 in Hoosick River, Washington, NY Death: 1 DEC 1855 in Harlem, Winnebago, IL Note: See also note at Joel Andrews (b 1753). The document referenced there says that Daniel spelled his surname "Andrus." = He was a soldier in the war of 1812. = Doris Klock quotes 1790 census, Albany Co. NY. "Andrews, Philemon; Men over 19: 2 (maybe one was Joel); Daniel, 2 years old (this fits); Female (wife of Joel) = Brey Family Bible has "Daniel L. Andrus born Oct 27th 1888 at Hoosick River New York State Died near Roscoe Ill Dec 1st 1855 Aged 67 year, 1 month and 4 days The 1888 has been crossed out and something that looks like 1711 has been inserted and then changed to 1788; the 1855 is also crossed out and 1778 inserted. Note that both [1711 - 1778] and [1788 - 1855] agree with the 67 year figure. Most likely is that 1888 was written erroneously for 1788 and 1855 is correct. The 1790 census confirms 1788 if Daniel was the two-year-old; also 1850 agrees with the Chautauqua County war records that list his death date as 1 December 1855. However, Loren Meissner copie! d it from the bible in 1958 as 1711-1778, and made a few other errors at the same time.
