    1. Re: Phillip Andrews murdered in Monroe Co., AL-1898
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Wm.2ADEB/948.1022.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Anne, from what we have been able to discern A. Phillip Andrews lived in the general area called Old Texas. He and wife Marian Frances Brantley are buried in the cemetery at the Jenkins Chapel Methodist church next to his older brother and sister in law, both of whom were also killed at a different time. The entire family from what we have found was a bit rough and ready and rowdy. Phillip was killed in a dispute stemming from an event that apparently happened two years before his actual death. We have articles in the Montgomery Advertiser and the Greenville Advocate dating back that while taking a great deal of literary license detail the murder. Marian died in childbirth. We do want to check available grand jury records if at all possible either in Monroe or Wilcox County. These two counties as well as Butler all butt up together and there are a number of small cemeteries that contain many Andrews that my sister and I feel certain are related. The family moved aroun! d quite a bit because they farmed cotton, a crop that notoriously depletes the soil after a few years. So they moved, cleared land, planted cotton in something of a cycle. The murder was never discussed and not one of my father's 7 brothers or sister remembered it. My grandmother, Birdie Idett Wright Andrews, actually acknowledged the event in my presence and that of my aunt her oldest daughter some 20 years ago when I discovered it while working on newspaper in the Jackson, Alabama area. Ada's sisters, Hattie and Rosa, worked very hard with the Baldwin County branch to erase much of the rowdy family history inspite of brother Semme. He served as a not so stellar sheriff in Baldwin in the early 1900s. Where are you located? I ask because we can pull joint research efforts together. I am curious to know more about Ada. I am familar with the Leroy area and had heard we had family buried there. However, there is a monument for a Ada Glover in the cemetery in Baldwin w! here most of my family is now buried. I think I may also have a photo of Ada with either Hattie or Rosa and Claud as children. I found it most amusing to know that these stories and possibly others were not shared with the younger family members. My sister is doing much of the detailed who married whom, who begat whom and the like. I am trying to flesh the people out so to generate interest among our younger set. Putting a real face to these folks keeps the kids interest. Please forward your email address if you would like to be on our family reporting list. I am still looking for reunion info. Understand one should be in the Rabun general area and another here in mid Georgia. I ran into a farrier from Troup County GA some years ago when my daughter was into horseshows. When the man stood up, I thought I was seeing a ghost. He was the spitting image of the Andrews men, my dad and his brothers. Turns out he was an Andrews as well. Any help or imput or stories you or others might add will be helpful. While I dont know the reason fo! r the move to Washington County, I suspect it may have had to do with farming. what do you know about what your grandparents did for a living? I may also know someone who can tell me for sure. I will check. The reason for the move to Baldwin was farming and the fact that my grandfather Lucian was encouraged to live elsewhere after nearly shooting a man he caught in his corn crib. He was an original bad boy who married the a very prim and very proper woman. I know he loved to farm, a trait my Dad inherited
