This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Andrews/Tinker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Wm.2ADEB/2857 Message Board Post: Dear Janeen, I was excited to receive your query. Ransom is an unusual given name. My great-greatgrandfather was a Henry Andrews, birth date unknown. One of his childen was Margaret, born 1796, who married Stephen Ransom Tinker. So it appears the name "Ransom" comes through the Tinker family. Margaret named one of her sons Henry Andrews Tinker. My great-greatgrandfather named a boy Henry Carson Andrews I and Henry Carson Andrews I named one of his sons Ransom Tinker Andrews. Another of Henry's childen was James, born about 1804. He married Caroline Andrews. I do not know if Andrews is her maiden name. James was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, and I don't know if he stayed there or came with the rest of the family to the state of Indiana. There are many Andrews families in southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana. We believe they are related but haven't found a link. I will keep your query and contact you if we find evidence that there could be a connection between my Henry Andrews and your Ransom David Andrews. I live in central Indiana. Are you a resident of Austrailia? Marjorie
I have to get in on this Ransom Andrews thing. I have been trying to hunt down the parents of my John Andrews b. abt 1750 probably in CT. He moved to Chenango Co., NY somewhere around 1800. His first son b. 1775 is Stephen. In looking around Chenango I found a Roswell Andrews. He has a son Ransom Rathbone Andrews. Samuel, son of John, named one of his sons Hiram Ranson Andrews. Samuel moved to Ashtabula Co., OH about 1821. Did any of your Andrews go to New York before going on to Ohio???? Do any of these lines fit into your Andrews????
