"Fayette Andrus" signed his name on the back and on the bottom and added "Paulet" which may be the name of a town or settlement in Vermont where he was known to have married a woman from Danby ( around the 1850's). Included with the box is a letter of details researched in 1983 by the previous owners. Box measures 5 1/2" x 9 1/4" x 6" tall. Buyer to pay shipping and insurance. OLD VERMONT LETTERS 1884-1905 19th Century Handwritten Letters Item number: 2217061369 Current bid: US $11.50 Time left: 2 days 0 hours Ends Jan-19-04 14:56:58 PST Description For your consideration here is a collection of old VT letters, 11 in number with their respective envelopes written in the first few years of the 20th century from Manchester, Poultney, Morrisville, Barre, Benson, and Cedar Beach, Vermont. Letters are in GD condition, personal in nature and addressed to John Andrus, Pawlett, VT. There is mention of camping out at Cedar Beach, playing parlor games around the campfire, 4th of July fireworks, "distress" in the stomach; one in 1900 by a trolley car driver talks about the hazards of folks driving in front of his car like crazy; concerts & receptions; Thanksgiving 1895; bird watching; traveling by wagon; church socials; travel around VT and to Fairhaven in particular; enclosure of a pressed leaf...One letter is from the "Goddard Seminary, Barre, Vt."
