There are a lot of claims about his ancestry. In scouring various websites and posts I've found that his birthplace is Overton, Wiltshire, England; Bristol, England; and Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England. I've seen his wife as Elizabeth Thomas, Jane Hamm, and Dorothy ____; I've seen his parents as William Andrews and Mary Fowler, Thomas Andrews and Dorothy Elliott, Thomas Andrews and Jane Hamm (hmmmm...... wife and mother have the same name????), and Thomas Andrews and Hester Young. One lineage calls him "Thomas Andrews V" and traces his ancestry back through four consecutive generations of Thomas Andrewses. Is any of this valid, or is it the usual fishing in the dark? I've found a regrettable tendency on the part of some researchers to find a "John Smith" in England, who was born around the same year as their ancestor, and to assume that they've found their guy. This might work if your ancestor's name is Burckhardt Zuppinger (don't laugh, that's actually an ancestor of mine), but for a common name like Thomas Andrews....???? I can't help you on source material for Thomas ANDREWS, indentured servant in 1671) as I'm still trying to tie my Frederick ANDREWS (c1800-1846) into "SOME" ANDREWS line. In reply to Dot's email earlier today. Below is what I have for the family of Thomas Andrews, who died in Henrico Co., VA. in 1731. From reading through your material, you seem to be connecting the Surry Co. Andrews family to the one in Henrico. It also appeared that you had an extra generation squeezed in, with children that are not familiar to me. There was an Andrews family in Surry Co., and as far as I recall, we never found any connection between the two. However, if you have some information to show that, I know we would all like to hear from you. We both start out with Thomas born about 1663. This from my notes: 1663. Thomas was born about this time, an estimate from some Henrico Co., Va. Court records: Henrico Co., VA. Deeds, Wills, Etc. 1688-1697. (Film #0031763). Page 135: June Court 1690. Mentioned as giving a deposition: Thomas Andrews aged about 25 years. Page 263: October Court 1691. Deposition: Thomas Andrews aged 28 years or thereabouts. From these two estimates, most research has chosen 1663. My next note for this Thomas was in 1704 when he patented land in Henrico Co. And in 1705 on the rent roll. The will information in 1731 (Henrico Co.) seemed to reflect back to the description of the land he received in 1704. Like you, I'm always ready to make corrections.
