I ask Meg if I could repost this to the Andrews group. Please e-mail her with questions I thought this was some really neat information. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RaccoonLdy@aol.com> To: <SCLAUREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2003 2:18 PM Subject: [SCLAUREN] 1800s AUTOGRAPH BOOK - Many Old SC Names Surnames: ANDREWS, SIMS, ROOK, TOMPKINS, AUGHTRY, ABRAMS, DAVIS, GRIFFIN, SEYMOUR, PHIFER, DULY, BRUCE, RAMSEUR, BULLOCK, McSWAIN, REEDER, DEVORE, SAYLE (SALE), STURGES Classification: Query http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YeB.2ACI/353 Message Board Post: MOLLIE SIMS STURGES AUTOGRAPH BOOK I am searching for any information on my great-grandmother, FANNIE AMELIA SIMS ANDREWS. She was born in ----?---- on 2 May 1851 and died in SC (Newberry Co.?) on 25 OCT 1895. She married WILLIAM ALLEN (BOSE) ANDREWS 18 DEC 1878. They lived in Whitmire. I know almost absolutely nothing about her. Fannie had a sister, MOLLIE (MARY) T. SIMS who married a (gasp!) Yankee after The War, IRA BURR STURGES, and moved to Oregon. I have an autograph book that belonged to Mollie that mentions many of her cousins and friends. I’m hoping that some of you will recognize the name of one of your ancestors and get in touch with me. The following people are my kin. I’ve signed just as they did in Mollie’s book, leaving out the individual verses they wrote to her. My own identifying notes and any information I know about them are in parentheses. ----THE BOOK----- “Your Loving Cousin, IDA SIMS – Goshen Hill, SC – Feb. 1st, 1886” “Your Friend, E. E. ANDREWS – Phoenix, SC – July 1st, 1882” (**This is EPHRAIM ERNEST ANDREWS – b.1857 – d.1911 – son of FREDERICK WISTER ANDREWS and FRANCES JOYCE DEVORE. He married LILY LAMAR SAYLES (SALE)) “Dear Cousin Mollie ….. Your Little Friend, MARY ANDREWS – Edgefield, SC – Dec. 18, 1882” (**MARY ELIZABETH ANDREWS – b. 28 JUL 1871 – never married? – daughter of GEORGE WORTH ANDREWS and AMELIA ANN REEDER) “Dear Cousin Mollie …… Lovingly, Your Friend, BESSIE ROOK – Edgefield Co., SC – July 25, 1882” (**ELIZABETH F. ROOK – daughter of FRANCES EMMA ANDREWS, who married Judge JESSE ROOK of Greenwood, SC on 20 NOV 1866. Bessie married WILLIAM WILLIFORD.) “Dear Cousin Mollie ….. Your True Friend, EMMA ROOK – Edgefield, SC – July 28, 1882” (**FRANCES EMMA ANDREWS – b. 1 NOV 1842 – Mother of BESSIE ROOK, see above. Daughter of DR. EPHRAIM ANDREWS and ELIZABETH FRANCES BULLOCK.) “Dear Cousin Mollie …. Your Fond Little Friend, LOUISE TOMPKINS – Edgefield Co., SC – Sept. 18, 1882.” (**Daughter of LOUISE ROOK and DANIEL HOLLAND TOMPKINS. She was a sister of Judge JESSE ROOK, see above. She married JOHN T. DUNCAN.) “My Dear Sister ….. Affectionately, Your Sister, LOULA – Dec. 26, 1883” (**NO information on LOULA SIMS, but in one of Mollie’s Oregon letters to my grandmother, she mentions LOULA had a daughter, PEARL. Don’t know who LOULA or PEARL married.) “Cousin Mollie ….. Your Affectionate Cousin, W. H. AUGHTRY – Goshen Hill, SC – Nov. 1, 1883” (**I’ve found no AUGHTRY family connection so far.) “Cousin Mollie ….. Your Affectionate Cousin, R. L. ABRAMS” (**No town, no date, no ABRAMS connection found so far.) “Dear Cousin Mollie ….. Lovingly, BEULAH DAVIS – Goshen Hill – Dec. 8, 1884” (**No family connection so far.) “In giving your thoughts away, please save one for old F. W. A. – Nov. 28, 1896” (**After a bit of detective work, and comparing dates, I’ve assumed this signature most likely belongs to FRANK WISTER ANDREWS, b. 1875, son of ELIHUE FRANKLIN ANDREWS and EMMA KATHERINE SIMS. He married FANNIE MAE SIMS.) “Dear Mollie ….. EPHIE GRIFFIN – Abbeville Co., SC – July 10, 1882” (**EPHRAIM GRIFFIN, son of MARY REBECCA ANDREWS and her first husband, JOHN ‘JACK’LEONARD GRIFFIN. EPHIE was born 5 JUL 1857, died 8 FEB 1935. Married 14 FEB 1899 to LULA McSWAIN who was born 12 SEP 1870 and died 6 APR 1937. MARY REBECCA ANDREWS was the daughter of DR. EPHRAIM ANDREWS and ELIZABETH FRANCES BULLOCK.) “To Miss Mollie ….. Your Friend, R. W. SEYMOUR, JR. – Cross Hill, Laurens Co., SC – Nov. 24, 1884 (**REV. SEYMOUR was a Baptist minister and the second husband of MARY REBECCA ANDREWS GRIFFIN. They married on 5 MAY 1864 and had 4 children.) (**The following names appear in Mollie’s autograph book, but I’ve found no family relationship to any of them.) D. P. PHIFER – (**No town, no date.) STELLA ___?___ - Cross Hill, Laurens Co. (**No date) JOHN DULY – SC – Feb. 16, 1883 T. P. R. – Edgefield Co. - Oct. 21, 1882 J. BRUCE – Edgefield Co. – Oct.15, 1882 LOU E. PHIFER – Feb. 12 1883 -------- end of autograph book --------- If anyone has read this far, do you recognize ANY of the names above? My SIMS line hits a brick wall with my great-grandmother FANNIE AMELIA SIMS ANDREWS, her sister MOLLIE (MARY) T. SIMS STURGES, and her possible sister LOULA SIMS(?) _____?____. I have one document from Newberry Co., SC that leads me to believe FANNIE had a brother named LEE H. (or W.) SIMS and her parents were JOHN F. SIMS and LOUISA ___?___ SIMS. I have no proof of this. If anyone out there has even a tiny clue, please get in touch with me! And if anyone happens to see an ancestor on this list, I will be more than happy to photograph their page and e-mail it to you.
