I am descended from a Thomas Fletcher Andrews who was born in Somerset in 1852 and came to Canada by the early 1870s. He was a veteran of the Northwest Rebellion and settled in Winnipeg in 1872, dying there in 1922. I posted a query on the Somerset board and rec'd a reply stating that a Thomas Andrews had been born in Dec. 1852 to a James and Harriet Andrews (born in Piddle Trent Dorset) living in Yeovil, Somerset. There were three sisters listed in the 1851 census: Jeane (who was born in Sherborne, Dorset) and Ellen and Eliza. I have no idea if this is my Thomas or his family! All I know is that he had a sister, Ellen, who apparently never married but who lived in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Do you know if your Andrews had any relations matching my Thomas Andrews and/or the family with Dorset connections found in Somerset? I'd love to hear from you. Thanks in advance!
I am looking for more information about my g-g-g-grandfather Dr. LFW ANDREWS (1802-1875), who by 1833 was a Unitarian Universalist preacher, but I believe began as a 'traveling preacher'. I have a lot of bits and pieces after 1827. Any direction on where to begin to look for him before 1827 is appreciated. I do not know whether he had formal seminary education but I do not expect that he did. He married a Methodist minister's daughter, Jane GRAY of Ohio/western PA in 1827. I have found a record of marriage in Hartford Connecticut (from transcription of Hartford Vital Records from Barbour, 1668-1852) where he officiated: Harvey, m Lydia DENSLOW, Mar 22, 1832, by Rev L F W ANDREWS He is mentioned by name in papers re: the 1833 South Carolina Universalist Convention. In the early 1840s he taught at Feasterville Academy in South Caroliina. The 1850 census records call him an editor and say he was NC born. An 1880 record of his daughter Jennie does not list her father's birthplace. He raised his family in Macon, Bibb County, GA. His children were: Lewis ANDREWS HJ ANDREWS John C ANDREWS Jane (Jennie) G ANDREWS FA ANDREWS EL ANDREWS After his wife Jane died, he married Mary LAMAR. He's listed as a "public speaker" from Macon, GA in: The Spiritualist Register for 1859; Facts, Philosophy, Statistics of Spiritualism. U[riah] Clark, Editor and Proprietor. Auburn, New York: U. Clark, Spiritual Clarion Office. This is from another account: The Rev. L. F. W. Andrews (1802-1875) was a Universalist minister through much of the antebellum period in the Southern States. His Two Opinions, or Salvation or Damnation (Macon, Ga., 1837) is a good glimpse into the theology of the time and place. Thanks! Everyone, Am looking for information on a Julia Andrews, b 15 Nov.1819 in Perryville, Perry Co.,MO. Not sure whether that's her maiden name, or a marriage; however, we know she did marry someone by the surname of Eason/Easton at one point; later, in 1845, she married a Jean Baptiste Montreuil. Jean Baptiste had been married to a Marie Hore/Hare. On the Andrews messages, I have seen a (Mary)Louise Verlin married to Henry Montreuil, Randolph Co., Illinois, (submitted by Judy Curtis of Chester, Ill) and I know this is the same line. Am hoping Judy Curtis will reply to my message and help us out. Julia's application was submitted to the DAR for acceptance, and will be accepted, except for the Eason/Easton name - they want more particulars of that husband, also want to know the name of Julia's mother and father and where they were born.
