Surnames: Andrews/Brown Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Wm.2ADEB/2949 Message Board Post: I have really gotten stuck here. I found one family tree that places them starting out in Rome (Floyd County) Georgia, complete with lots of family dates. Problem is that name spellings do not square with census info that puts them in Faulkner County, AR for 1880 census. All the spelling inconsistencies made me suspicious and a little research turned up nothing. I have not been able to confirm anything in earlier Georgia Census. While I know both William M Andrews (Willian N. in the other tree) and Sarah (shown as Sarah May Brown) were from Georgia, I can get any confirmation. Does anyone have some info here?

    3. Although I have good information on some of William and Avis's children, there are some that I do not. I have next to nothing on their son John, who was married to Lucy. A Mecklenburg Co. deed mentions them in 1773, and I see the two of them in one as late as 1781. I have no children for this couple, when they died, etc. I have very little on Thomas, who died in Lancaster Co., SC. I have nothing for Richard. Nothing for Eleazor. If anyone has further information on these men, please share with us. Perhaps Nell will spot something that helps her. John Floyd was also in the Rev War, the information I copied down gave his marriage date as, 4 July 1783, Lunenburg, VA. Spouse, Nancy Andrews. He was a private from North Carolina Militia. John Mangum Jr., 1763, Lunenburg, VA and Mary Murdoch or Jemimia Goggans are the parents of my g-g grandfather Wiley P. Mangum, born 1795, NC. I cannot find the marriage dates for the marriages of John Mangum, so, I am not for certain which one of these women he was actually married to in 1795. Several of John Floyd and Nancy Andrews's children intermarried into the families that both Mary Murdoch and Jemimia Goggans were from. Wiley P. Mangum's wife Mary McSwain, born 1801, Chatham, NC, was the daughter of Martha Andrews and John McSwain. The other siblings were born in Tennessee, so, I am assuming John McSwain and Martha Andrews came to Tennessee from NC about 1802-1806. Jo Ann

I've done a little more digging around on this line since yesterday, and most other researchers seem to think that Patsy Andrews married John McSwain in North Carolina, came to Davidson County, Tennessee and ended up in Williamson County, Tennessee where John died. Unfortunately, no one's listed any dates source references, so I don't know how they arrived at North Carolina as the site of the marriage. Of course, it would be entirely possible that John & Patsy could have come to Tennessee with Patsy's family. Oh, well, onward and upward! <G>

    1. Williams Andrews died in Dinwiddie
    2. Hi Carol and Sue, Thanks for all the post on William Andrews and Avis. My great great grandfather Thomas Andrews b. 1795 lived on land that could have been William and Avis Homeplace off of Butterwood Rd. in Dinwiddie South of Petersburg West 460 There is an old Cemetery on Butterwood Rd. known as the Vaughan Cemetery many unmarked graves are there .WPA Records are in print on the known burials there . That land 16 acre's was Thomas Andrews land at one time. His son John Andrews purchased the land after the taxes were not paid for several years 1865 , 1868 and 1870-71. I am do believe that Thomas was a grandson of William but have no proof I have that missing generation between somewhere between 1750-1795. Thomas had two sons named first born son David Thomas and John Nathaniel was second son. Thanks again, Nell in Carson, Va.

As Sue mentioned in her earlier post, a group of us did very substantial research on this line a few years ago. I do have a lot of this research, including Sue's position paper proving that our Avis could not have been Avis Garnett, posted on my Web Page in the Family History section under Andrews. http://www.carolshouse.com I would also be extremely interested in any additional Bible and/or legal records that might shed further light on this family.
