Hi All! In my 'welcome' message on Friday, 19 JUN, I wrote: ****************** >I'd like to know too how many of you'all may have read William Marvel's >(1994, ISBN # >0-8078-2152-7. "Alexahunt," I want to say thanks to you for posting that particular assessment because it corresponds precisely w/ my own impressions. I would've spent a lot more time-----and likely many more words----trying to encapsulate my own similar impression. Well stated! Marvel did allow a hint of anger to prevail throughout the book (I agree) yet, while never fully agreeing with it, was able myself to read beyond it after just a short while. I too was rather surprised by it's rather "sympathetically- southern perspective" but-----upon completing it-----I realized that Bill Marvel had actually given a divisive CW subject a much-needed degree of balance and for that, I'm thankful. We should be careful since other ANDERSONVILLE subscribers, like Bob Farrell, are now reading the book; I think it's both important and valuable that those readers form their *own* opinions.... Great dialog, folks! Anyone ready to propose that we "elect" a representative to contact the NPS at Andersonville and begin the ambitious task of re-creating a complete "incarceration" list? Just wondering! Once this list grows some more, it may well prove to be a worthy (even manageable) task.... My own personal interest in Andersonville is both historical & genealogical. And I *know* from experience that there are *many* genealogists out there who are dying to have a complete and accurate "Andersonville" database available for searching on-line! 'Just another of the many outlets this List could take if interested, that's all... Greg Reeves ANDERSONVILLE-L Listowner greg@rapidnet.com
