Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new ANDERSONVILLE mailing list! I'm glad that you chose to subscribe. Started just this week, there already 21 of us subscribed...Consider yourself a "charter subscriber!" As such, I'd like to ask a favor: this mailing list (like some Internet *newsgroups* we all frequent) has the potential of quickly becoming little more than an ongoing "North vs. South" flame----I intend to prevent that. I want this new mailing list to include "high-minded" discussions, the sharing of scholarly works, reviews of books etc. Okay? Clearly, I'm going to need everyone's help in keeping our List above perpetual flaming, so I need a commitment from each of you other 20 early subscribers that you'll help me keep our new ANDERSONVILLE mailing list above all that... Having said that, I'd like to encourage each of you (if you've not already done so) to visit the biographical-tribute page I created for my GGG Uncle, Lt. Thomas B. Reeves, Co. C, 10th Indiana Cavalry, who was captured on 17 DEC 1864 at Hollow Tree Gap, TN, and subsequently imprisoned at Andersonville until 18 MAR 1865 (a relatively "short stay" there). His page can be seen at URL: http://www.rapidnet.com/~greg/Tom I'd like to know too how many of you'all may have read William Marvel's (1994, ISBN # 0-8078-2152-7. North Carolina Press) book entitled, "Andersonville: The Last Depot?" I rather liked it but, because I'm not an expert, I'd be interested in hearing other's assessment of Marvel's treatment-----so, anyone else read it? The degree to which TNT's "Andersonville" original movie script followed Marvel's text suggests that either he served as a consultant to the producer/director, or the book was a primary reference. Can anyone verify this observation/supposition? 'Gotto go! Again, I'm glad that everyone's chosen to subscribe! I don't intend to 'dictate' here what about Andersonville is discussed, I mean by what I wrote above to suggest that-----to the best of our abilities-----that we avoid flame wars that tend to persuade nonone and serve only to needlessly fill-up already bulging E-mail boxes.
