I missed the beginning of this discussion, but I assumed VRC was Veteran Reserve Corps (invalid Union soldiers with disabilities precluding their continuation in combat units, but not too ill to do paperwork, serve as prison guards, etc.). The 22nd Regiment Veteran Reserve Corps served as follows: Organized at Washington, D.C., January 12, 1864, by consolidation of the 74th, 91st, 122nd, 126th, 130th, 134th, 175th, 183rd, 184th and 192nd Companies, 1st Battalion. Mustered out by detachments July 1 to November 19, 1865. (Source: http://www.civilwararchive.com/Unreghst/unvetres1.htm, Dyer, volume 3).
