    1. [ANDERSON-KNTV] William Anderson
    2. Descendants of William Anderson Generation No. 1 1. CAPTAIN WILLIAM5 ANDERSON (RICHARD4, RICHARD3, YORK WATERSHED2, COLONIAL VIRGINIA1)1,2,3 was born Bef. 1647 in York County, Virginia, and died 1717 in King William County, Virginia. He married DOROTHY DABNEY Abt. 1675, daughter of CORNELIUS DABNEY and EDITH MORRISON. She was born Abt. 1655 in Gloucester County, Virginia, and died Aft. 1720 in King William County, Virginia. The Anderson families of the York River Basin have been written about by William Pope Anderson in the 1930's who was generally more careful about what he claimed than other writers. However he made no reference to this William Anderson. He lists a William Anderson in a tax roll in 1708 and comments that he sold his land to Matthew Anderson but addresses him no further. From Virginia records and Some of W.P. Andersons notes it is obvious that there were coincident families with Robert Anderson headed by Richard and William and they all moved into the area that broke up into New Kent, King William & King & Queen Counties moving upstream from Gloucester County along the north bank of the York River. A study of the Louisa County Land Patents indicates the presence of Anderson families that have been unassigned to date by any researcher and it is my suggestion that additional work on this line of William may connect some of them. Caroline County records of the 1700's reveal the presence of WIlliam Andersons that I suspect descend from this man. from the Virginia Patent Books 1663 William Anderson was a head right of William Jones to New Kent County William Anderson 12/10/1668 437 acres New Kent County patents 6/213 Stratton Major Parish, branches of Poropotanke, N of plantation of John Fox, to S of Rappahanock Road. 64 bought of Thomas Hanks remainder for import of 8 persons. William Anderson 03/11/1675/76 60 acres Gloucester Co. patents ?/601 in Petsoe Parish, adj. his own, Maj. Lewis, Nettle, John Jebell, near the five springs William Anderson 09/22/1682 90 acres New Kent County patents 7/186 Begin at his fence to Rappahanock Path, by Rappahanock Road, to William Lines. 1683 adj. Henry Fox New Kent & Gloucester Co. at Wm Anderson's fence John Lewis Quarter up to William Lynes 1685 adj. Richard Davis at Rappahanock Road The Rappahanock Road was probably the predecessor to Virginia Route 17 and William Anderson's land fell between this road to the northern Counties and the Poroptank River which formed the border between Gloucester and King WIlliam Counties. It is likely that he owned land on both sides of the river and county line. Gloucester County records were lost in an 1820 fire and it is possible that additional information would have been available on him from them. William Anderson & Dorothy his wife 04/25/1701 179.5 acres King & Queen Co. Patents 9/350 In Pamunkey Neck, St. John's Parish, on Pounce's Swamp, adj. 1. [ANDERSON-KNTV] Richard Anderson
    2. Descendants of Richard Anderson Generation No. 1 1. REVEREND RICHARD4 ANDERSON (RICHARD3, YORK WATERSHED2, COLONIAL VIRGINIA1)1 was born 1618 in London, England, and died Aft. 1657 in Gloucester County, Virginia. He married ?. She was born Abt. 1620, and died Aft. 1650 in York County, Virginia. Richard Anderson arrived in Virginia aboard the ship "Transport" in July 1635. The ships manifest says he was 17 therefore he was born in 1618. York County Will & Deed Books 1/25/1646/7 Reverend Richard Anderson, Clerk mentioned in York County. York County at this time included both the south and north banks of the York River. 2/18/1647/8 Richard Anderson witnesses the will of Nicholas Dale and proves same in court. Va Patents Richard Anderson 1654 imported to James City County E of Chickahominy River As was common at the time Virginia gentlemen made one or two trips back to England on merchantile or family affairs and earned an additional headright upon their return to Viirginia. York County Will & Deed Books 10/26/1657 Mr. Richard Anderson listed in Estate settlement of Henry Lee Although some of the Robert Anderson family claims to be descended from this man I have found no record of his descendants. He is likely the father of the Richard who appears in the 1660's in the counties immediately northwest of the York River. Noone has written much about this Richard Anderson New Kent County was formed from the York River Watershed and it is possible that the Richard, Robert, John and William Anderson of that region are descendants of this man but it is unproven. They were the parents of Elizabeth Blankenship,b.abt.1763, who married (about1780) Humphrey Garland in Warren Co.,NC with Mark Thorton as best man. I looked at the wonderful site above, however did not locate the Anderson-Blankenship connection I sought. Records of Joseph's will were noted in Southside journal.

    3. Hello List, The list as been pretty quite lately and I just wanted to remind you that I am still in need of info for our Main Anderson Web Site at http://www.geocities.com/andersonkntv/index.html The DNA testing Study for the John Anderson Line Rev.Soldier, born 1756,is really growing fast.We have six or seven donors now and are awaiting the results. We are looking for a donor connected to the Daniel Anderson and Rebecca Blakely Line. The kits cost about $99.00 and are very easy to do.Just a swab inside the cheek and mail it back to the lab. Please if you would be interested or know someone linked to Daniels line ,we would love to hear from you.

    1. [ANDERSON-KNTV] DNA Testing
    2. Mary Lou
    3. Hi Alice, The DNA test is done through male lines that carry the surname you want tested. The male relative cannot be adopted. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son and on down through the generations. The test is done by swabbing the inside of the cheeks with the swabs that come with the test kit. Once a surname project is set up with the lab, the cost of a 12/12 marker test is $99. If later on someone wants to do additional testing, perhaps go to a 25/25 marker test, this additional testing can be done on the same sample for an additional $90. In our Jacob Anderson (b. 1779)family, we have started with the 12/12 marker test. The two test completed so far proved the two men tested didn't match (aren't related) on the 12/12 marker test. We are hoping more Anderson families will consider DNA testing and we can watch the test results at the web site and find the Anderson families related to us. My Anderson family holds a reunion each year in Winfield, TN. Last year our group voted to sponsor three DNA tests from donations collected. We wanted to prove or disprove that we were connected to members of the John Anderson family of Campbell Co., TN. It is really fun and exciting to watch the test results come in. If you go to http://www.familytreeDNA.com you can browse through all the surnames that have set up DNA projects. I have several family lines that are doing DNA testing. It is saving a lot of research time by knowing which families aren't related. The lab we are using is familytreeDNA. We are not associated with the lab other than using it for DNA testing for genealogical purposes. 3. I dont see a connection to my Andersons. I am searching for the parents of Jacob Anderson born in Virginia in 1779 and moved to the Ky. and Tn. area about 1800.First married to Nancy Richardson in 1805 Pulaski Co. Ky. ,then Barthena Bull abt 1825. The Samuel Anderson I menetioned seemed to be where ever Jacob was, so I thought he might be a connection. 3. Hi Paul, The link below will take you to an excellent site that explains the numbers in DNA testing results. http://blairgenealogy.com/dna/dna101.html#Reading%20the%20Test%20Results Are you interested in being an Anderson DNA donor? We would love to get more Anderson's interested in the DNA project. When you are waiting on test results to come back it seems like it takes forever, but it is a quick way to find what Anderson lines a person descends from. :-) Mary Lou ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Anderson" <pa@alltel.net> To: <ANDERSON-KY-NC-TN-VA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 31, 2003 9:30 AM Subject: Re: [ANDERSON-KNTV] DNA results > Mary Lou, can you explain the donor numbers? 3. Hello Anderson Researchers, DNA test results are back for the John Anderson (b. 1758) donor and the Jacob Anderson (b. abt 1779) donor. Test results show the two men did not have a common ancestor and are not related. John Anderson b. 1758 Bedford Co., VA DNA donor numbers: 13 24 14 11 11 14 12 12 12 13 13 29 Jacob Anderson b. abt 1779 VA DNA donor numbers: 14 22 14 11 13 15 11 14 11 12 11 28 What a wonderful tool DNA testing can be in proving or dis-proving relationships of people carrying the same surname. Those of us descending from Jacob Anderson of Scott Co., TN can now move on to searching other family lines to find his parents. The down side of DNA testing is finding we aren't related to some wonderful people we thought were related to us. On behalf of the Anderson Family Reunion Group of Scott Co., TN, I would like to thank the donors for their participation in this project. The Anderson DNA Surname Project results will be posted to the following site in case any of you would like to follow along with the study. Information is included on the site for anyone interested in being a donor. http://www.geocities.com/herb194/AndersonDNA.html Thank you, Mary Lou Hudson (Desc. of Jacob Anderson)
