    1. Re:Grayson Co, Va research
    2. Margaret, Cornelius Anderson b. ca 1670 Elizabethton, NJ, d. May 1724 Hopewell, Hunterdon, NJ, m. Annetje Opdyck ca. 1690. They had Eliakim Anderson, b. ca 1690, John Anderson, b. ca 1694, Cornelius Anderson, b. ca 1697, Abraham, b. ca 1700, Annah, b. ca 1702, Bartholomew, b. ca 1710, Andrew or Andries b. ca 1710, Francina, b. ca 1714. This information is received from other sources that I haven't verified yet. We know from DNA test results that my husband, Jene, and John Mahlon Anderson and Jerry Anderson are of the line of Anderson's below. Keith Anderson recently participated in the DNA study and was a 23/25 marker match with Jene and John (they both were 25/25 match). Jerry is waiting patiently for his 25 marker test results and so are we! What we don't know is who Jene and John descend from in Ericus' line.... and we don't know yet how Keith, John, Jerry and Jene are related ... just that they are because of the DNA program. Ericus Joransson-Anderson, born Abt. 1671 in New Sweden, DE; died March 25, 1765 in DE. He was the son of 2. Anders Joransson and 3. Sophia. He married (1) Brita "Bridgitta" Paulsson. She was born Bet. 1672 - 1676, and died March 6, 1749/50 in DE. She was the daughter of Olle Paulsson and Kerstin. From initial appearances I don't see a connection between Cornelius Anderson and Ericus Joransson-Anderson's line. We are looking for an Anderson from the Hawkins County TN Anderson's, particularly from Swimpfield's line to participate in the Anderson DNA Study. Also looking for other Anderson's that know they are related to the Grayson County VA Anderson's, particularly old John Anderson's line, old Jacob Anderson's line and old James Anderson. John Anderson's line is that of Thomas Anderson of Grayson County VA. Jene's line is that of William Anderson and Katherine Walling. Jerry's line is that of Daniel Anderson and they believe him to be of the Hawkins County TN Anderson's. Keith's line is that of John Watson Anderson line that went to Coffee County TN. I don't know if this helps or hinders but if anyone can help clarify some of this information or know they are related to these lines please let us know. Thanks, Darlene -------------------------------------- In a message dated 5/4/2004 12:54:28 PM Central Daylight Time, margiesan@charter.net writes: Darlene and all, Here is a tidbit or two that I ran across while searching for my 3 different Anderson lines. Second, Birth Records - Grayson co, Va. 'Stephen and Rebecca Anderson had a son named Orville, on 1 Nov 1855' Both of these items can be found on the 'New River Notes' website, by Jeff Weaver. 3. Della, Thanks for clarifying those Anderson's for me! One thing that came out was the fact that your John was born in Bedford co, Va in 1758. I have a Peter Anderson that was born in Bedford co, Va about 1756. Could they be brothers? Supposedly this Peter was in Grayson Co, Va, Lee co Va, and maybe Hawkins co, Tn. (He applied and received a Rev War pension in Hawkins co, Tn.) I have seen charts on the web, connecting this Peter to the Swimpfield Anderson line, out of Grayson co, to Hawkins co, Tn. I have seen no proof so I have not done any research in Bedford co, Va. at all, so let me know if you have anything on this Rev War John. Siblings especially. 2. We need a person from the Whitley Co. Ky. Daniel Anderson who married Rebecca Blakely line to test their DNA. If anyone is interested please contact Herb. The participant must be male and a direct descendant of Daniel Anderson. Thanks Darburns@aol.com wrote:Hello, We've had 20 people participate in the DNA Project and there are 137 people on the mail list. Family stories from one generation to the other had been passed down that John and Jene's Anderson's were Swedish but we haven't been able to document and prove that until the recent DNA Study by Keith Anderson. If you don't prefer to participate in the DNA Study would you tell us about your Anderson lineage? And if you prefer to participate DNA Study would you tell us about your Anderson lineage anyway? 3. Hi, You might try looking in Jackson Co, Tn for the parents of your two brothers, Lafayette and Garland. There are at least 4 different lines, (or maybe not) of Anderson's in that area. The name of Garland is a prominent one in the Anderson line. In 1806 three brothers named Thomas b 1779, Joel b 1781. and Garland b 1783, migrated from Cumberland co, Va and settled in Jackson co, Tn. Thomas had a son named Garland b 1810, who moved on to Buffalo Valley to buy land in 1838, The other two may have had a son named Garland also. These three were 3 of the 14 children that were born to William and Catherine Shirley Anderson of Cumberland co, Va. I hope this helps. 3. Darlene, This file on John L. Anderson is very confusing. Is she saying that he and Capt John Anderson of the Blockhouse are one and the same? Time frame is wrong and wives are wrong. Children listed also belong to 'Blockhouse John'. The e-mail that is included in the file (by me) makes it seem as though they are the same, but at the time I did not know John L.s dates or wife's name. If Alyce isn't on this list, you may forward this to her. 2. Hi, We have had a family tragedy recently, my son died very suddenly, he was only 41 years old. This will slow down some of our activity for now. My brother is in North Carolina and I will forward the information to him so it may be a while until it's done. Anne Anderson Turnbull

    3. Hello Annie, Sorry that it took me so long to answer your request for information. I am Herbert Anderson and I am the Anderson DNA Project administrator. To answer your questions as best I can. To get the dna test kit, you need to go to www.familytreedna.com and find the surname projects. Now find the Anderson project and click on it. There will be a join project icon or something there that you need to click on. This will bring up a document where you fill in some information and order your DNA kit. The 12 marker test is about $99 and the 25 marker test is about $160. I would recommend the 25 marker if you can afford to go that far. When your Brother receives the test kit he will find two swab units and two small vials with a small amount of fluid in each. He will also find directions in the kit on how to do the test. But in basic summary: He will take one of the swabs one day and gently rub the inside of the cheek for approximately 30 seconds he will need to insert the end piece of the swab into one of the vials and seal it. The next day, he will need to do the same thing with the other swab on the other side of his mouth. Once the collection is complete, the two vials should be mailed in the enclosed/self addressed envelope and mail it. Then you just wait for the results to come it and find out what the results are. We have had a few good finds in our results so far that have helped people in confirming or disproving their paper research. I think it is a great genealogy aid and look forward to seeing the results of your brother's test. The Anderson puzzle is a big one and we are going to need a lot of dna testers to get it worked out. If you have any specific questions that you want to ask me, please feel free to write me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. 3. Hi Anne, So glad to hear your brother is going to do DNA testing. Are you waiting on results from his test? I think through DNA testing we will find out how many different Anderson families we are dealing with. The name is so common it is hard to know where to start looking. I descend from Jacob Anderson of VA/TN/KY b. abt 1779. DNA testing helped our group - we thought Jacob was a son of John Anderson of Campbell Co., TN and DNA results proved that wrong. Mary Lou
