No, James was called Jim and he was killed. he was the brother of William T.Anderson(Bloody Bill). Glynda
I would like to prove this for a fact. There is a lot of information out that my William C.Anderson was the Bloody Bill that lived and died in Texas .He did die in Texas ,but was not the Bloody Bill that rode with Jesse James. There has been several books with the wrong information,Photos etc. I do have a connection to Jesse James. My gr. grandmother was Minerva Ann Mims. 4th cousin to Jesse 's wife Zerelda. I do not know of a male Anderson in my line that would do the D.N.A.My Gr grandmother Martha Ellen Anderson married James Massey. She was a first cousin to our William C.known as Bloody Bill by some . Glynda
No I do not. My James and William C were the sons of Jane Scruggs and William M.Andrson. They lived in Mo. also and then In Texas. Glynda
I need to rephrase this statement. Source: Bloody Bill Anderson The Short, Savage Life of a Civil War Guerilla by Albert Castel & Thomas Goodrich Page 139 James "Bill" Anderson (brother to Bloody Bill Anderson) was killed in Texas by either William Poole in 1867 or George Shepherd in 1868.
Glynda, DNA testing would prove whether or not the family of Bloody Bill Anderson connects to your family. You would have to have a direct male descendant from Bloody Bill test and also a male from your Anderson line. Both donors would have to carry the Anderson name and not adopted. Gee, since we all have Anderson lines it would be interesting to know which line he connects to. :) A desc of the John Anderson (b. 1758 Bedford, VA, d. Whitley Co., KY) said stories were told in his family that Bloody Bill was related to them. I could never find a connection to the John Anderson family. Mary Lou

I have the census of Noble Anderson who married Elizabeth Price back to 1790,1780,1800 and 1810 where he lived in the Pendeton Dist. He is my 4 th gr grandfather. I also have the census for all of Noble's children . William M Anderson had William C. and also a son James. (same names as William T.Anderson and his brother James). I also know that on March21,1881 a brand for horses was registered for William C. in Brown Co.Texas It was an A on left shoulder. I have his obituary where he died Oct.31, 1927 and it does state that he was called Colonel Anderson and did ride with Quantrill . James was born Jan.1838 in Mo. and died in Brown Co. Texas in 1900. He married Emily Jane Benson and had eight children. James first moved to Wise Co. Texas and then to Brown Co. Texas. Notes for William Anderson.....William Anderson because of his name and where he lived in Missouri, was mistaken for "Bloody Bill" Anderson ,the out-law who rode with Quantrills Raiders. He was nearly killed when a shot aimed at him missed and killed another man. After that he desided it was a good idea to move to Texas. Some of his decendants still believe he was the infamous outlaw, even though that man died in Mo.after many killings were attributed to him and his followers. So it is very certain that the two men were not the same. William C. Anderson was my gr gr grandmothers first cousin. My Questian : Was this Anderson family from Pendeton,S.C. related in any way to the William Anderson family from Ky. and their son William know as Bloody Bill? Thanks ,Glynda
Do you think the James Anderson who rode with Jesse James was a son of your William C. Anderson? Bloody Bill Anderson was killed on Oct. 27, 1864. Shepherd, George W. G. W. Smith-------------------- Enlisted in the army at age 15, under Gerneral Albert Sidney Johnston, to fight the Mormons in what was then Utah Territory. Fought at Wilson's Creek (Springfield, MO) and at Pea Ridge, AR. Rode with Quantrill, and went with him to KY, where he was surrendered by Capt. Henry Porter to Capt. Young, US Army, at Samuel's Depot, Nelson County, KY, on 26 July 1865. Participated in the Russellville, KY, bank robbery, 20 Mar 1868. Caught and did two years in prison. Attempted to help law officers catch Jesse James after the Glendale, MO, robbery. Was shot at Short Creek (Galena), Kansas by Jim Cummins because of it. Fell out with Jesse when Jesse, along with James Anderson for killing his nephew, Ike Flannery over Ike's inheritance. Tracked James Anderson to Austin, Texas, where he slit his throat on the lawn of the State capitol building. With the support of the population, he escaped back to MO. In 1865, married Martha Sanders Maddox, the famous Confederate spy. Martha first married Richard Maddox. She disguised herself as a man, called herself "Matt Sanders", and rode with her husband. Richard Maddox was killed shortly after the war ended. Martha married George Shepherd and tried to help him escape from prison. Gave up on Shepherd, and married McMakin, a wealthy neighbor of her father. When Shepherd got out of prison, she chose to stay with McMakin. Shpeherd charged her with bigamy, but she gained a pardon from the governor, and the charges were dropped. Glynda
Source: Bloody Bill Anderson The Short, Savage Life of a Civil War Guerilla by Albert Castel & Thomas Goodrich Page 11 and 12 Bill and Jim had come to Kansas in the spring of 1857, along with their mother, Martha, a brother named Ellis, and three sisters, Mary Ellen, Josephine and Janie. There they had joined their father, William Anderson, Sr., on his land claim and helped build a log cabin some thirteen miles east of Council Grove near the fringe of the western frontier. For Anderson Sr. this was yet another beginning in a life of beginnings that had seen him wander from his native Kentucky into Missouri, next up to Iowa, and then back to Missouri, from where he journeyed to California in quest of gold. Like most, he did not find it -- at least not much -- and after a year or two he returned to his family and farm outside of Huntsville, Missouri. Then in 1855, soon after Kansas was opened up to settlement, he went there and acquired his claim, which was located on the east bank of Bluff Creek beside the Santa Fe Trail, the passageway for wagon caravans bound to and from New Mexico. Still in ! his mid-thirties, he was not old, yet he was no longer young as age was reckoned then. It was time to settle down. If he and his family could not make it in Kansas, there might not be another chance, certainly not as good as this one appeared to be. Page 12 But if the Andersons stayed clear of political involvements, they failed to escape hard luck or resist the enticing temptations of the frontier, where semianarchic conditions offered all sorts of opportunities to those who had enough courage, yet not too many scruples, to grasp them. First Ellis, the second oldest son, had an altercation with a drunken Indian; he shot him through the head and fled to Iowa, from where it was reported falsely that "he got in a row..........and was killed" Next, in the latter part of 1860, Mrs. Anderson died when a lightning bolt struck her while she was gathering wood chips. She was thirty-six, and she left six children behind, the youngest a boy only a year old named Charles. And then Bill, the eldest son, succumbed to the temptations.
Noble Anderson born in Pa. in 1769 and died in Cherokee Cty.,Ga in 1850. He was married to Elizabeth Price. His father was George Anderson. His Grandfather was William Anderson. I do not have dates or any other info on these but George must have been born,in the 1730's or 40's and William some 20 to 30 years earlier. I am curious as to this line of Andersons and the D.N.A. that is being done. Can someone help me here? I would like to prove that the William C.Anderson , son of William M.Anderson and Jane Scruggs is not the William Anderson Know as "Bloody Bill Anderson" of the Quantrill Raiders, during the Civil War. Is it possible to find an answer by way of D.N. A. of the living Anderson's? I decend from Samuel Anderson and Mary McKinzie. Glynda

To all who might be interested, James Anderson a descendant from the Rev. John Anderson line has updated his test to 25 markers. The results won't be in for a few weeks yet but he has sent it in.
