I am seeking information on the William Anderson family of New Jersey in the 1700's. William's wife was named Martha. They had eight (8) children: (1) Sarah, died young, (2) Willie, died young, (3) Hannah, who married Michael Schooley, (4) Priscilla, who married Matthew Cunningham, (5) Elizabeth, who married William McDowell, (6) Martha, who married John Ross, (7) Peggy, who married Alexander Kirkpatrick, and (8) Molly, who married John Riddell (prior to 1751). I am a descendant of the John Riddell/Molly Anderson family. John Riddell had been previously married to the widow Rachel Stockton (nee Stout) in 1741 in Somerset County, New Jersey. There was one child by this marriage, Anna Riddell. Somehow this marriage failed as Rachel Riddell assumed her Stockton name and lived beyond the time of the marriage of John Riddell to Molly Anderson. Records on Rachel Stockton lists her daughter Ann Riddell. The will of Rachel Stockton mentions her daughter Ann Riddell. The children of John Riddell and Molly Anderson were: (1) William Riddle (Riddell), born in Boundbrook, New Jersey September 01, 1751, (2) Col. John Riddle, a revolutionary War hero, born December 04, 1761 on the banks of the Raritan River in New Jersey, and (3) Molly Riddle, born in New Jersey, date unknown, married to _______ Casterline, of New York State, where he died. They had one son and two daughters, some of whose descendants lived in northern Ohio. Molly was buried at Boundbrook, New Jersey. I descend through William Riddle (b.1751). I have read that William Anderson descended from an ancient family in Scotland, went from the north of Ireland to Liverpool, England, where they acquired great wealth by merchandizing. They came to New Jersey about 1750 and their descendants have frequently intermarried with the Riddells and Riddles. If you have information on this William Anderson, please contact me. I would like to learn more about William and his role, if any, in the American Revolution. I am willing to share what Information I have on the famliy of John Riddell and Molly Anderson.
