    1. [ANDERSON-L] Funny Given Names
    2. Mary Alice Thomas
    3. Hi to Karen, Marie, Judy et al, I replied initially somewhat facetiously because I thought the name Zula would just fit in with the crazy ones in my grandfather's family. However, at this point, I should tell you where my Andersons are from. My gr-gr-grandfather was b. ca 1810 in South Carolina, but I have no idea where. Joel Anderson is a far more common name than one would think. He was in Monroe Co, Alabama by 1838 when he married Jane Middleton there. [These Middletons were from Marion County, South Carolina]. My gr-grandfather, Christopher Emanuel (C.R.) Anderson went to NE Texas soon after 1870 where he married my gr-grandmother Luticia Ellen McLeroy in Titus - now Franklin - Co. My grandfather, Cicero Anderson was b. in 1875 in Hopkins Co,Texas and my mother Althea Omegie Anderson and her twin Alfred Cicero Anderson were b. in 1900 in Rains Co, Texas. So, as of now, my Andersons were strictly a Southern family. Alas, it is such a common name to research. Thanks to all of you for your replies. It has always seemed to me that the funny names were more prevalent in the South. Mary Alice in CA
