I have so many John Anderson's but none that would have been in the VA/WV area as early as 1797 I don't think. I was thinking on the Charlestown Academy though and I could see my Anderson's sending a son there as we were/are a family of educators and big believers even back then in education. In fact, one of my ggggggg-fathers' sons (don't know how many) was probably one of the first teachers in PA: Taken from the 1910 Historical Souvenir Book for Phoenixville, Pa: "that probably the earliest teacher in this vicinity was Patrick Anderson, son of James Anderson, a Scotchman by birth, who was the first settler in what is now SchuykillTownship, in about the year 1710. Patrick Anderson, his son, when quite young, was sent by his parents to Philadelphia, there to be educated; and this was done of course, because of the lack of schools then in this section of the country. Mr. Pennypacker in his history says, that upon Patrick's return from Philadelphia, 'he taught the children of the neighbors in his father's house.'"
