A historian by the name of Virginia Easley DeMarce, studying the Melungeons of the region, presented a paper to the NGS in May, 1996. In that paper she references the Handy Book, Hancock Co., TN: 1844, Claiborne, Hawkins, Main Street., Sneedville, TN 37869-9501. There she talks about the early tax records of Hawkins Co. TN (1810) of Capt. Looney's Co. (Creekmore 1980, 170-172) and appearing there on are the names of Swinfield Anderson and James Anderson, et al. And she copies a partial list from this publication. Next to Swinfield Anderson's name is a footnote 22 and at the bottom of the page she writes: "WILLIS, Larkin dated 14 Oct 1846 census proven 1859. Wife Elizabeth Willis (n.b. see Sizemore).
