Hi friends, I just got back from 2 weeks in CA and survived flying from SFO to BWI over Y2K. I also survived using my sisters 5 yr old obsolete puter to keep track of y'all and I bet you didn't even notice. I bought her a new one for christmas. Since I changed the list "reply to" funtion to reply to the list, we have dropped in subscribers from 640 to 600. Some folks haven't had the patience to bear with the increased traffic, but I am impressed that most of you have, so congratulations to you. Maybe some of the others will come back now that the holidays are over. Three current issues: 1. tsk tsk, don't get testy with each other on my list. enough said. 2. With replies going to the list, try to look at all your replies with this test in mind: "Does it have the name, place and date of an Anderson in it?" If it doesn't, then please send your reply directly to your correspondent instead of the list. This is the simplest test I can think of and it is really the only criteria I put on messages to the list. 3. When quoting a message for reply, it is useful to select text from the original message that identifies the topic you are replying about. However, try not to quote an entire message including the comm traffic at the bottom as it just adds clutter. And never never, quote an entire digest message when responding to it, becasue this makes the next digest twice as large with duplication of prior content and very annoying. It also messes up the rootsweb criteria for issuing the digests causing more confusion. Best wishes for the new year. Patrick J.
