He married Sarah Sallie Farrar (February 2, 1765-Abt. 1830) on October 29, 1792 in Goochland Co.,VA. She was the daughter of Perrin Farrar. Their children are Nelson married Elizabeth Betsie Holland-January 3, 1825; Jesse W. married 1.Mary W. Carter-December 23, 1828, 2.Martha Ann Carter-December 2, 1847, 3.Sarah A. Lewis-March 16, 1857;Robert believed to have gone to Ohio-no further information; Mathew F. born between 1800-1805-no further info; Sallie F. married Daniel Samuel Carter-December 26, 1825; Garland married Mary Unknown and moved to Madison County, Alabama, he had one known child Octavia that married a Saunders.
