    3. Hello listers, I am trying to help my sister-in-law, Sylvia Anderson, find any relatives she may have somewhere in the world as she is all alone and searching for her roots. The only thing she knows is that her father was born Vaino Armass ANDERSSON in what she thought is called Pori, Finland. Vaino was born May 5, 1911 and that is all she knows except he came to America in 1941 on a boat. Vaino ANDERSSON met and married, Ida Maria PANANAN in NY City--she was known as "Mary." They moved to an Island in the Thousand Islands, N.Y. Their closest post office and mailing address was Clayton, NY. Vaino dropped one S from his name and legally became Vaino Anderson. They had a son who died as a boy as he drowned in the Island's water, and they had Sylvia 5 Jul 1945. Vaino Anderson died Feb. 1970. I looked up Vaino Andersson on LDS site and I did not find that particular Vaino Andersson however there was and Andersson born in what was listed as Turku Pori Finland. I don't know whether my sister-in-law was correct in saying her father was born in Pori or if the LDS website's family record was correct and the name of the place is Turku Pori, Finland. My sister-in-law went with what little she knew about her father to the local LDS research facitlity and they had no records from Finland. She did say that she believes her father may have had a brother named Lauri and she believes he may have stayed in Finland and he may have had children. I have searched the usual genealogy sites: LDS,rootsweb, Ancestry etc. Does anyone on this list have any suggestions as to how to find relatives that may be in Finland? I know enough to write to the town clerk of places in U.S. or to a town historian or genealogical society but does anyone have any suggestions as to how we should proceed with writing to Finland? She believes that the Russians at one point burned all of the town's records. Any information on this family will be greatly appreciated as well as any suggestions of how we can contact Pori or Turku Pori would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Renne Blocker
