I have a old family letter that states Samuel Chewning married Elizabeth Ashburn. Samuel was of Caroline Co., VA and had some type of relation with the Andersons as he was always having them witness things and in his will he named his friend John B. Anderson and his slave Phyllis went to live with John. Anyways the only thing I can find is Samuel Chewning bought land from John Ashburn and wife Sarah, their son John and wife Elizabeth in 1753. Samuel was born in 1722 Middlesex Co., VA his first child was born in 1743 and last in 1771. There are records for John Asburn sr., in 1756 a petion against him for debt. These are in Caroline Co., VA. In 1764 he took the paupers oath. A John Ashburn died in 1770, his estate was handled by Mary Ashburn. During the revolution there is a mention of Francis Ashburn wife of William Graves Ashburn, asking to be released from taxes. In 1780 William Graves Ashburn is handled by a John! Ashburn in Caroline Co., VA. In Spotsylvania Co., VA John Ashburn married Susanna Arnold in 1804. In 1789 there is a court reference in Spotsylvania 1789 that Plaintiff Mary Ashburn against Anthony Arnold, he has a slave that belongs to her slave named Cebele/Cebe. This is all I have but hoping to find more. I know in the 1780's some of the Chewnings of Caroline and Louisa Counties show up in Caswell Co., NC there has to be some connection.
