A graduate of San Marcos High School in San Marcos, he moved to San Antonio in May 1946 and attended San Antonio College for 1 year. Mr. Anderson retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1986 after 40 years of service. Delegates of the Texas Labor Hall of Fame approved Dan Anderson (CWA) for membership in the Texas Labor Hall of Fame. Induction will take place at the Texas AFL-CIO COPE Convention in January 2002. A plaque bearing his photo and major accomplishments will be installed in the auditorium at Texas AFL-CIO headquarters in Austin. The Texas Labor Hall of Fame was established in 1987 and currently includes 28 members. Mr. Anderson joined CWA in 1946. His union involvement included: Job Steward – Capital Assignment Center, Chair of the CWA Local 6143 Election Committee, Chief Steward – Assignment and Testboard, Secreta! ry-Treasurer, CWA Local 6143, Member Ex-officio, CWA Local 6143 Finance Committee, CWA National Convention Rules Committee, and member of the San Antonio AFL-CIO. In recognition of his many years of service to the Communication Workers of America, Mr. Anderson was named Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus and the Union Hall located at 1027 N. St. Mary’s was renamed the Dan R. Anderson Building. Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, Texas A&M Fathers Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, and American Legion, Post 539. He was a delegate to the San Antonio Central Labor Council, Board Member of the San Antonio Telephone Federal Credit Union, Secretary-Treasurer – CWA Local 6143 Retired Members Club, President of the Neighborhood Association, member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Chapter 4, Texas AFL-CIO COPE Quorum, CWA RMC COPE Participation. His activities included the Pop Warner Football League, Little League Baseball, PTC Men 2��s Club at Centra! l Catholic High School, Secretary Treasurer of San Antonio AFL-CIO Retirees Council, Secretary-Treasurer of the Texas State Industrial – Past Union Council and member of the Board, St. Cecilia Holy Name Society, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Precinct Chair of Precinct 426, Candidate for State Representative, State Bar of Texas, Member of the District 10B Grievance Committee, and the United Way Steering Committee. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Ann Anderson; sons, Daniel R. Anderson, Jr., Bandera, TX, Randal Clayton Anderson and wife, Catherine (Cathi), Meraux, LA; grandchildren, Daniel R. Anderson III, Marlena E. Anderson, Charles Gordon Anderson, Marissa Dominio, Sarra Dominio, Sean Anderson, Randal Anderson, Jr. and Gabrielle Anderson; sister, Roxiedean Nave, TN; aunt, Mary Elizabeth Younger, San Antonio; and many loving friends.
