I'll be back in September...maybe with more info on my Andersons. I'm headed to Kansas, including a side trip to Lindborg, KS. See you all later, Ellen -- Picard Pines mailto:m-e-picard@plix.com http://www.plix.com/~users/m-e-picard/ http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/p/i/c/Ellen-J-Picard (updated 6/99)
Hi everyone! I thought I would post again the Andersons that I am looking for in VA and NC. David Nolan Anderson b. 1818 (Halifax County, VA) d. 1881 (Patrick County, VA) m. Sally Ann Pell (b. 1818 d.1865) They had the following children: Martha Jane, Meredith Hillary, Louisa, Elizabeth, Jacob, Robert, Richard, Samira, Columbus. All were born in Stokes County, NC where David and Sally moved after they were married. They can be found in census records from 1840-1860 in this county. After Sally died, David remarried to a Rachel Lawson and moved to Patrick County. David's father was Mere(i)dith Anderson b. 1792(?)in Halifax County, VA d. 1820 after the 1820 census was taken. He married Jane Ferguson (FArguson)(b. 1790ish) daughter of Sarah and Jacob Ferguson of Halifax County, VA on 10/28/1816. After Meredith died, Jane remarried Hardin Beasley and can be found in Stokes County, NC census of 1840. Jane and Hardin lived in Patrick County, VA in 1830 according to census records. Family history indicates that Meredith's father was Jacob Anderson and other tales include that he was apprenticed to a blacksmith. I am desperately trying to link a Jacob Anderson definitively to Meredith with no luck. I also believe that Meredith had brothers John, Jesse, Josiah, and Richard. A John Anderson in the 1850 Halifax County, VA census lists John as 60 y/o and he has sons named Meredith, David, Jacob. I think this is a definite connection to the family. Anyone out there researching this line of Andersons? I am willing to share all the info I have on this line. Thanks LAP _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Family Tree Maker is a versatile program but most people don't realize they can send several different types of charts as well as a quick and easy outline via email, [without the need for attachments, which are the bane of the Internet]. The outline is by far the easiest, all you to is click on outline, click on contents, items to include, choose name, all three dates [b,m,d] in location, spouse's father/mother, take out the short default date or you will have double dates, click on contents again and choose 2 or 3 generations, don't send people 10 generations down to your grandchildren unless they ask, besides it is a bad idea to send out so much personal information to strangers. Then just click on edit and copy the outline, and simply paste into email. You only have to choose items to include the first time, the program remembers this the next time. There are 3 charts you can create but these must be copied, pasted to word, cut from word, and pasted to email which seems like a lot of work to me when the outline is so easy, but Click on GEN REPT, click on format and choose one. Click on contents and choose options, you don't have to include the notes, which makes a shorter chart, then choose 2 or 3 generations. Also if you put your source notes in the text you don't get all those numbers after the names of each person. First is the register style which prints the entire name in ALL CAPS and skips lines between most people, this form takes up a lot of space and the all caps are hard to read. Second is a much better form called the NGS format, which is descent ordered and prints a nice compact list of children, then in the second gen. lists the children that you have more info on and their children. It is by far superior to the register style. Third is the ancestor chart which does just that, prints out ancestors, you can choose how many generations, again it is best to choose only 2 or 3. Family Tree Maker is an amazing program and every six months or so you should skim through the manual to see if you can learn something new. Sandy in Florida
